as far as i know it's a real one that was captured in north africa. supposidly it is very rotten underneath though (unless they have restored it since the mid 90's).

still it would be nice to have in the garage.

does anyone know how many of these things there are in australia?

I think it was actually restored during the 90's.
Looked mint allround anyhow.

My old VET teacher built an almost exact replica and sold it to someone up that way so I thought it may have been his.

G'day,
Yeah saw that in the late '80s and from memory the front shocks were on upside down and a couple of other little details that weren't quite right, but still awsome.
Cheers, Ian.

The story on the museum car as far as I know...

Bought back with the Aus Army in about 45' (possibly with a friend or a 45' beetle) - sold off at an army surplus auction for $40 to the big old wrecker in Kingaroy QLD (with heaps of other miltary stuff), sat there for 30 years until urchased for the museum, very rough around the bottom & a few parts are reproed (including doors) - a few years a go a friend of ours pulled a genuine kubel door out of the same yard before everything was crushed to make way for a housing estate. Story came from the late owner of the wrecking yard & Jerry, the Kubel king in brisbane.
