Aside from that one patch on the side, it doens't look particularly ratty. It looks pretty good actually. The wheels really make a difference.

Yeah, the wheels/tyres actually made all the difference, it look ok before but now it looks
I have been thinking of adding a racing stripe (kind of like a burnt orange colour), the paint is quite faded, I can see the factory primer on the
roof.

Go wild with some grey or red oxide primer and you'll be getting closer.
or cover it in iron filings and park it under a sprinkler.
other than that you can park it my driveway next to mine.

I don`t reckon primer constitutes a Rat.
More primer look or something.
To me a Rat should be a faded/sunbleached/sand eroded original VW colour
some surface rust, accessories (if fitted) should also be the same.

Somebody should come up with a "rat look checklist". I also don't think mine is a rat..yet.. but I wanted people's opinion. One day I will be
restoring. Hey Chook, your rat is noce, woudl love to see a bright orange sticker on the doors, but it's cool as it is.

Rat rod
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
"Rat Rod" a newly developed name for the original "Hot Rod" style of the early Fifties. A " Rat Rod" is usually a vehicle that has had many of
its non-critical parts removed. They are usually finished in primer like paints and are often period correct. Very often the conglomeration of parts
and peices of different makes and models. A typical "Rat Rod" is an early 30's coupe with the body set low on the frame, white wall tires, big
little tire combos, exposed engine bay, home made upholestry, and tons of horsepower. It has become popular to use a similar treatment on cars from
the fifties and early sixties as well. These vehicles are most times not originally high performance vehicles, usually a large 2 door sedan with a
chopped down roof line and very little trim work.

More original condition than rat I would have thought. Looks bloody great though. Right height and yep, the wheels.
Now this is a rat.
