VEE-DUBS IN MOVIES AND TV. Spotto

Well the last crash ate the thread and gave the thread no. to another!!

Had some great comments on:

1. Manx Buggy's on the Original Thomas Crown Affair

2. Heaps of cameo's on Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory

3. Love Bug and Herbie...of course

4. Jamie Oliver's 23 window Splitty

Just saw Beverly Hills Cop and saw a 65 beetle attacking a truck in the opening sequences.

Anything else worth watching??

Just read in the papers about the new Herbie movie coming up and it stars Matt Dillon and Herbie goes NASCAR racing...

He is no longer a 59/60 bug now but looks like a 70's bug!!

Just saw the second Star Trek movie called ' Star Trek- The Voyage Home'

Still a great movie but was I ever surprised when I saw the scene when they crew have arrived in LA and are walking in the streets totally lost when behind them comes this lovely Karmann Ghia...light blue and really great looking.

Just goes to show that Spock, who directed the film, has really good taste.

Checkout some of the Bond movies, most of them seem to have a large selection of dubs in them. Especially when they are based in Europe of Brazil.

In Spaceballs there's a brief scene with a 181 Thing dressed up to look like a land speeder off starwars, its hard to spot but the doors give it away.

I think there is split kombi in mad max which gets totalled by a cop car.

There is also a split kombi in starsky & hutch which can be seen when starsky & hutch drive into the docks just before they try to land on the boat!

Oh in the craic with Jimoen, he buys a kombi, i think split, but it catches fire.

During some past footage on television of the Jo era in Queensland, my four year old had great delight in spotting all the 'Herbies'. At the last count she spotted six.

Don't forget Get Smart and his Karmann-Ghia in the early episodes.

I just watched the first episode of the NEW Dr. Who series and there is a yellow flat screen beetle with the big round tail lights off the L bug on the back in this episode.

Our ghia is called Max because of Get Smart and I love the part of Rick Moranis in Spaceballs in his thing/landspeeder dressed in his Safari suit and Safari Darth Vader like helmet.

Ahh, the classics

I remember that movie The cars that ate Paris. I'm sure the beetle with all the spikes on it made the cover of Hot VWs at the time. A very gory movie with Bruce Spence in it. Decapitated bodies and all.

Rent the film " Almost Famous"
It has quite a few splits in it.
Also the last Charlies Angels film with Demi Moore in it has a nice split ute when she is surfing.

I just watched a movie on the TV.

It was an aussie one with that fat lady that stared in Babe (You know, the pig movie)

It was called "Dog Women", and her Indian boyfriend was driving a vw Type 3. It even had the usual distinct vee dub sound.

Right, there was a war film called either "The Keep" or "The Castle" where some yanks capture a castle (obviously) and one of the yanks wants to keep a beetle that was there but when the germans counter attack they have to dump the beetle into the moat where it continues to float!Plus does anyone remember when Kim Bassinger first appeared in a cop series called "Dog and Cat" where she had a porsche engined beetle also Boonie bugs (a kit based on a kombi chassis)were used in Total Recall as police vehicles on Mars.
