yes it does, its done in a similar fashion to a beetle beam but i think you can only take 2inches out of it with out and mods..........I THINK,
i could be wrong tho

That`s had more than 2" taken out of it mate. Looks more like a 4 or even a 6.
I think up to 4" can be done by cutting out the outer box section on the shock towers/beam mounting area, then removing the outer bearings and
cutting 1 or 2" off the ends of the tubes (depending on how narrow you want to go). The outer bearings are then refitted to the ends of the tubes. I
am not sure how this affects the inner bronze bushes. They can maybe be pressed further in by and inch or whatever each side.
I have seen this done on a US site.
I have also heard of an extra chassis rail cut from another kombi being welded to the back of the existing rail and then the beam mounting area cut
away to reveal the new recessed beam mounting point. Not sure if this is true but it is far better to narrow a beam from the centre as with Type 1
beams so as not to upset those inner bronze bushes.
Also when you go so low that you need to narrow the beam, you will also probably have to fabricate wheel tubs or the tyres will bottom out on the top
of the inner guards.
Here`s some pics from vintagebus.com website.............

man that white bay is too extreme, would not want to be driving that at high speed on a bend. I have to say, in my opinion I don't like the look,
but if you need to because of fitting larger wheels.. like dassdubber... then I think it's a good idea.

That van is bad, lots of bad, 17 bads...
a decent corner and it will be yet another rolled kombi, don't do that, don't do it, 2 inches is more than enough.

no never want to go that narrow just want to tuck the wheels in a bit and tub the front so i can get it low without scrubbing the guards. this is the
only photo i've found of a bay with a narrowed beam.
