So how much can you fit in a kombi or a bug?
Picking up from a previous thread
...I don't think it's possible to put ***too*** much in a car (if it was too much, it wouldn't fit). Mind you that where my little car
- ghost - got the nickname of 'mobile handbag'. The cheek of some people.
Hmm That sounds like a new topic...
So how much can you fit in a kombi or a bug?
In my uni days we squished 8 students into a vw to get to the pub for happy hour... What about you?

i had 7 in my squaerback, 2 in the back under a rug 'just in case'
- just in case we were pulled over and the cop was blind !
8 in a bug is pretty good - riding on the bump stops !

My brother and I shifted some large building blocks in his '89 Vanagon ute, we just kepy piling them on. When we got home (~80km away) we
weighted a few and estimated just over 2 tonne. :o:o
We put 60psi in the tyres to stop them bulging
It loved it.

we had 15 people in a '72 Kombi camper to get from Newport to Avalon to a party 
I once saw someone with an early kombi turn up and have a full pallet of bricks put in before scraping his way back out of the yard and down the
road....very dangerous....

I'am to young and sensible to do something like that. So I asked my father what stupid things he did in the 70's, so far, 20 ppl transported
in/on a beetle, ten inside, ten outside and drove 500m. but the best hes done is driven a mini from cooloongatta to palm beach with 12 ppl and a xmas
tree on board. That just scares me.:o!!! |

Ah the '70's
Well, we used to drive fairly slowly (possibly paranoid), admiring the scenery (like wow, look at that! Man....) and take lots of munchy breaks along
the way 
Really nothing crazy or dangerous
Couldn't do it now, traffic too heavy and fast, and my children would take away the keys |

Did I mention we also went down Arthurs' seat and the Niki's brakes were dodgy?

How the hell can you people DRIVE with so many people in a beetle???
I had trouble driving the beetle with 5 big burrly blokes in it (me included) and it was on the bump stops, but still drove nicely.

ive put way too much in and still had much more room. I thought id store some pavers in a kombi. There's 2 pallets in there and you could easily
fit another 2, probably 3, maybe 4.
I dont know how heavy it was but it twisted and wrecked my 2 1/4 tonne trolley jack when I tried to get the tyres off for more air.

it was so hard on the bump stops I couldnt turn the wheel. Was about a 20 point turn to get it from the the footpath to the driveway. Quick lowering
job.
Ive also put 4 bags of cement under the bonnet of a fastback and had a similar effect even though its only 160kg. hmm and I towed a 4m long cubby
house on a car trailer with the fastback too. Trailer alone is 410. Wasnt game to go over 60kays. As for people cargo well I'm not sure. Not
nearly as many as you lot. Definitely wouldnt be more than 10 in the kombi, but maybe 6 in the back with no seats (I wasnt checking out any views
though... was at warp speed through the back blocks of caringbah)

What a cool way to lower a Kombi. If you line to floor with them you also get good sound, heat and cold insulation!!

I used to keep a bootful of firewood in the squareback, just to plant the nose better. I found it really helped with the crosswinds, and turned in
much nicer than it had without the extra weight. The ride was better too.:thumb

Yep Azz thats it. its a container van. it measures 2.7 long 1.83 high 1.8 wide if you allow for the engine deck it's still 7.7cubic metres of
cargo area
or about 50+ surfboards

the van is 2.250 high from the road but inside its 1.83 or standing height. I always have one surfboard in it strapped to the roof just in case. i
use it to carry props for tv commercials its been filled to the roof a few times but the biggest loads have been when i have helped friends move house
we usually do it in two trips even the biggest fridges can stand up in it. it will make a great camper on day, maybe..................
