Perth Buggy Pilots
Hello all, long time lurker, new poster here
I just bought a Taipan buggy as a weekend toy and I am wondering how much attention the thin blue line pays to these on the road. Mine is correctly
registered as a buggy, but it is currently running 30"x15 Wranglers on 7" rims on the back and 175/65/14's on 6" rims on the front. I am planning
on swapping to 15x7 on the back and 15x6 on the front with better matched tyres to make it slightly more legal, but would appreciate any advice as to
how much attention the boys in blue will pay to a decent looking buggy (driving sensibly of course!).
Cheers
Pete

Hi tinsfci, welcome to the site.
I have a Taipan buggy in Perth too. Mine runs 15 x 8 rears with 31 10.5 15's and 14 x 6 with 185r14's on the front. I've had the car for about a
year and the police don't pay too much attention to it. Having said that I've had one yellow sticker on it but was really unlucky on that day. That
day they were introducing a new camera that reads the rego plates on cars and they decided to block off Wanneroo road to demostrate it to the media. I
just happened to get pulled over in front of a news camera and they just had to put a yellow on it to show that they are getting all the old cars off
the road. I didn't have much wrong with car and got over the pits not long after (had to put stock wheels on to get over though).
Your new wheels sound like they would pass the pits.
You shouldn't have too much trouble with the law anyway, if you're not looking for it.........
If you want to on a run one day let us know............

We'll probably have a chat this weekend about putting the next run together so if you make it to the show and shine or the motorkana, be sure and
introduce yourself....
I hate to admit it, but man, I think you're right....

Cheers Guys,
I will definately be coming out to play. I am primarily setting the buggy up for tarmac motorkhanas and max action events, but I am keeping a set of
off road rims and tyres and coil overs so I can do a quick change act. 620kg+1835cc=FUN! Why the hell have I waited so long to buy one?
I don't think I will make it out this weekend as I need to make a rear bumper and cut another bar out of the roll cage (6'3" tall in a buggy is
pretty funny) before the first round of the state Motorkhana Championship the following weekend. But I will catch up soon.

I must admit that I don't know a lot about them myself! Sunday will be my first event (at the CBH Grain Termial in Forrestfield). The state
championship is run by the Mini Car Club and others, there is a bit of older info in the net if you search. The proffesionals turn up in small space
framed mutant cars with the engine and front suspension of a mini. I will be the one in the orange buggy making a complete tool of myself. Hopefully
I will know more on Sunday afternoon.
