To start with it was about 50mm off the rear tyre. He was then dropped to about 10mm below the tyre
Now sits about 20mm above. So about 30mm from begining

Supers look better lowered - not slammed

Well the KYB Gas turned up and put them in today.

Totally amazed. They were as hard as to squeze to put in and i thought this was going to stuff the ride.
the ride became pretty hard when i put they Type 3 torsions in and was concerned these were going to make it worse.

But the reverse has happened.

This thing is like on rails but smooth as. The KYBs seem to work "with" the heavier torsions and is a smoother ride now.

Really happy with the set up now.
Did a bit of carb work and this thing jumps like a scalded cat now. Wonderful street car /daily driver

Think i will start playing with the bus now

i would do it as they look totaly at home on that bug! just a question will you have to chane the rotors and drums due to stud pattern difference?

Well the 17"'s havent happened just yet.

The rain hasnt let up and if i dont take a pic the car will change again.... so....

I have got new rotors and drums in 5 x 130 PCD and have gone back to an old favourite.
Boxster 16"
These are perfect for a Super Beetle. No spacers and no track change.
16" x 6" x 50ET on the front with 205/55's
16" x 7" x 40ET on the rear with 225/50's
Michelin Pilot SX all round

Well - got fed up with crappy engine mounts and not having propper heat

So - got playing again

While i was at it i had a spare engine cowl i got powder coated

TO fix the engine shudders (that a crappy Empi quality front engine mount couldnt! :mad: ) we went Berg / Porshe cradle mount

Also got rid of the jello late gear box cradle and went early with poly mounts

The handling is different to say the least
Engine noise is definitely transmitted into th car but the gear changes are SUPER SMOOTH!

No more rocking back and forth in the gear stick

Well worth a days work :love:

Also got myself an angle grinder and got rid of that hood / engine lid seal lip
For a car that lives out side 24/7 they are NOT the best idea.

Anyway - ground off the offending metal and put a Mexican seal on
MUCH better

they're a fantastic upgrade those berg mounts. makes you wonder why VW never went with something similar. the front tranny mount on porsche boxes is very similar to it...only bigger of course. BTW, I like your abarth style exhaust. sound good?

Living out side has taken its toll on Marty :(

That STUPID system of trim fir the hood/bonnet/whatever and enging lid has rusted.
It is just spot welded on and water WILL get in underneath

Rubbed it all back and painted (:crazy:) it up.
Martini Olive is a BITCH to match
Its not TOO bad from 20 feet.
Going to do a respray one day - so main aim is to stop the rust and look OK-ish

Other thing i did was something i said i would never do again

I put a set of dual carbs back on

I picked up a set of dual DRLA Dellortos
Took my time and jetted then up pretty well with the help of Richard Holzl
Decent linkage and it runs sweet.

Yeah - i know i have a filter between pump and carbs - but i need it for the line change.
I need to but a conversion joiner thing

I just love the sound of induction in the morning.
No difference in consumption, maybe a little better
Reckon i have picked up a few ponies as well

No plans for a different exhaust mate??? I haven't seen this thread before, but I have to say, most of the stuff you have done is what I want to do with my super. I love how it looked with the spyders when you had it low low. it looked fantastic. I have been thinking about those wheels for while, mainly due to the simplicity of not having to do anything with different stud patterns.Taking off those seal tracks makes it look ALOT!! better, an amazing difference.

sorry to be a pest.... but where did you get the replacement seal for the bonnet and engine lid from?? also, do you leave the orginal style seal closest to the bottom of the windscreen?

You can either buy it from places like Vintage where it is a 2 piece kit or go to Clarke Rubber and buy some there
You need a profile like this

You use the original style seal closest to the bottom of the windscreen
Some people use the clip / channel there but that was my main problem area.

So you need to glue in in position

My hood probabaly doesnt sit perfect - especially for out side life.
I could spend time and get it to "press" into the seal to get it to keep more water out, but if you dont do it perfect i fint the hood rips the seal off

I have "bogged" an answer by using a bit of Clarke Rubber stuff with the balloon cut off.

I have run this along the top of my hood and it presses into the top seal giving a fairly good seal
I dont mind the "accent" line

Look out, there will be a copy seen soon!

mine (73L) will look similar externally, except im going to have flat black accents (headlight trims, bumpers)... and mine will be a bit more rat look with multi colored panels (not like Col Look though). I also had the trim removed, but the holes are still there. I have a bit of rust to remove when it goes to the body shop to fix the rear end damage... so it will have the cal look seals, and a late rear valance (sqaure cutouts, no bulge). As I said earlier, loving the Vfroce wheels and have been thinking about them for a while (your car being the inspriation), with federal tires {caught the bug for these whilst working on/driving Mazda SP23's}. Im also going for the 1302 tail lights, just because i hate the elephant feet.

Love it mate. good stuff :)
