She's nearly ready

Just the upholstery to go now and she should be back on the road next week. Blue Bug is a 68 model we are taking back to standard (other than high back seats).

Looks like a nice car, how much have you done to it since taking it off the road? Very nice....

We took the body off and put in new floorpans. Got the shell blasted back to bare metal then had any rust fixed. Wasn't too bad for rust. Had all the guards replaced with good 2nd hand ones (still needed panel beating a little though). Got everything either chromed or powdercoated and replaced virtually everything rubber as well. New rubbers even for the quarter windows (biiig job) and door windows. Added reversing lights and hazard flashers as well.

The interior going in is all new TMI stuff being put on to later model high back seat frames. These were stripped down and powdercoated as well. New carpets and tyres etc. Basically a full rebuild of the body.

The engine was built from new as a 1641cc 11 years and 155,000km ago. It was still going good so we just had the heads tidied up a bit and she was blowing a little smoke from the drivers side so we had the rings done as well. All new heat exchangers, steering box and ball joints etc and new suspension all around. It should be like a new car when we finally get her back.

She has been off the road since October last year so we can't wait.

Pretty close hey Sean. Ours is a VW colour but not for the 68 year model though. I think it is called marine blue or maritime blue or something similar.

You look like you are going down the same road we have.

Does anyone have any idea why the pictures are not showing in the post, only a link?
