I have a similar problem with an Alfa steering wheel, no solution yet other than cleaning it down with water and soap, hitting it with a bit of armour all or Mr Sheen.

I've always wondered what happens when You try to take a steering wheel with an airbag in it.... :):)

I used to use the lace on perferated leather steering wheel covers back in the 60s & 70s....

I would like one to put on My Beetles steering wheel...

but all I can find are those that just sit onto the wheel rim....

Avus used to make them... made in Germany....

I'll have to visit a few OLD parts stores....

i used to run lace on wheel covers with a layer of foam under neath to make my beetle wheel a little thicker. the laether covers are pretty poor quaility, but also try all palces, car palces and kmart and the like, wehn we found some we bought a few!!!

now i just run a momo wheel............

I have no sympathy for my car, only the wallet that pays for it!
