Charge light wired backwards

This is a weird one that hopefully someone can explain. when i start the Kombi it runs fine and no charge light comes on. when you increase revs the light comes on. i have checked and the alternator is charging the battery. any ideas. it is a 2lt motor out of a 73 kombi the regulator is a RE 75 i think but may be wrong can anyone tell me what regulator i should have as the wiring diagram says that the warning light should come of the red wire but it comes of the green i think.
Help please

All I can tell You is that an Alternator needs a lamp to excite it to charge.....
so it should go on when the ignition goes on...
and off when its charging....

Maybe there is something else connected to the alternator to make it charge..??
