Electronic Ignition Conversion
Hi All,
A few months back I stumbled on an article while tooling around on the net on various techo things VW by some guy in the U.S., and among
other things he detailed how to convert a Kombi (or possibly any VW donk, can't remember exactly) engine to electronic ignition using a Jap dizzy,
possibly off a Toyota. I didn't take note of the web adress, but now realise I should have, as mine's had the Richard and it might be a nifty mod to
do.
If anyone out there's got the adress, or the info, I'd appreciate hearing from you, as setting the points every 300 k's is getting a
little tiresome.

i've read that (prob on here too) with little mods could yeild you a magna dizzy in place. or you could do what lots people have done (incl myslef)
and chuck a little aftermarket electronic points kit in the dizzy you got.

Might chase up that option, the problem as far as I can see is that the bushing in the centre shaft that turns the
actuating cam for the points appears to be worn ( very sloppy), so I'm probably up for a new dizzy anyway,

i wouldnt have thought so. the elect points kits have a big flat plastic washer with magnets for each fire. this just slips over the dizzy shaft. you
then replace the points with a little sensor that triggers as each magnet wisses past.

Yeh go for the electronic ignition! Does wonders and you don't have to reset timing once it's set. You could just get a new 009 pretty cheap on ebay
and then by the ignition module.
