^ like he said.
The thinnest steel is on late model bugs which is 0.8mm. Modern cars go even thinner.

as expained above.
Personally I have my good and bad days with my welder - some days I make perfect welds on thin sheet - other days I struggle not to blow holes in
metal the thickness of bridge girders :duh:
What are you planning on welding?

I know welders that can do 0.4 stainless sheet with a TIG and 0.6 with a mig.
I have seen a lot of people say the MIG they are using is crap and doesn't work, then when I look at what they are welding it is rusty, covered in
dirt, crap and nearly see through thin, using every setup on the machine wrong. What chance is there?
Clean ya metal and set the machine right and with patience and skill you can weld just about anything.

I think its 0.4cm I am makeing a wireing cover to cover the heater pipes/wires at the front of the car as I have a firberglass front clip so it looks
like I am going to have to borrow a TIG.
the steel seemed to be bare but it hasnt rusted at all so I think it might be zinc coated will it be ok to weld like that or had I better sand it
back? |

Have you used a TIG before? With the right machine and a good operator you can weld a razor blade, But If you aren't that experienced at useing one
don't bother ......you wont be happy with the outcome.

if you havent used a tig before forget it ,even on pulse you will have a blobby mess to contend with its taken me about a yeat to get a handle on the
one at work and im still playing ,far better to con the machine,s owner to come and do it for you and yes the coating will have to be removed |
