My 66 T3 fastback (now with on the road pics!)

Finally I have managed to scrape enough money together to start working on my 66 fasty and so feel that I can finally start to post some pics of this beautiful car as I slowly get her on the road as my daily.

The engine is a stock 1600 that was rebuilt just 6 months before I purchased the car and basically has never been driven since the rebuild.

I purchased the car in around August of last yr and have just not had much money to work on her as much as I would like. She had when I got her:
BBS 17x7” Pirelli 195x45 front 205x50 rear
Rear camber compensator
Porsche 924 front shock absorbers
Italian spec clear lenses
Euro tail lights
German Bosch headlight glass
Pop outs
US trigger quickshift

She also had a gear box that was stuffed so Volkspower helped me out early with a new second hand box as well as ignition switch.

She is in the shop as we speak and I hope to have her back again by next week so as to continue her make over.

These pics were taken of her over the weekend before she went into the shop.

Does anyone know what the 'S' means model wise for my car?? I have been told it is rarely seen and pretty collectable.

How come you are selling the wheels? They look good, something different. Or you have other plans?

yeah I am swapping the wheels. Trying to put my own stamp on her I guess. I too love those wheels, but they are 16's and a bit big for the look that I want.

I am thinking empi 8's;)

The interior is pretty sweet man with the red vinyl. The front and back seats are both pretty good, only thing about the interior is the crack in the dash (like thats never happens on type 3's).

Bought the car from Sasha who was a AVD member about 6 months ago and replaced the gearbox straight away as well as a few other minor things like the ignition switch, etc.

Then she sat for a while, as I tried to put some money together to do the work on her that she needs.

Now that I have saved a little bit, I am trying to get her on the road.

Don't go the empi 8's, the offset is all wrong for type3s, they won't tuck. 2.0 fuchs (or replicas) are very good. When you look at wheels look at the offset, if it's something like 20-28" then they are bug offsets. Unfortunately most aftermarket VW wheels (4 lugs) are mostly marketed for the bug. other good ones are those for 914, mahle, pedrini's (there are some on ebay at teh moment), some sprintstars, etc.

Great look...the early ones. Right colours, right height, right model. Like to see it with the 8's. I reckon they'll suit it. And maybe a thin redwall. mmmmm
Nice car Padds.

Since you have them give em a try before you put tyres on them and try to see if they will clear on your fasty... otherwise maybe you can get credit (if they are from a shop) and get a different set (what about the ones that 65turbo [?] is using on his square, they look mad). If you got them privately and they will to fit, then maybe you can sell them and get a different set.

Unfortunately the work I requested from the guy doing the work was not done appropriately (or at all, no details I am putting it behind me) and so Dean and the boys at Volkspower will hopefully help me out.

Sounds like she needs some work, lets just hope the bank is not broken. I just want her on the road so I can drive her down to Geelong and show the inlaws what I have been spending our future home loan money on.;)

why empi 8's ? they're nice wheels but when you already have the porsche small 5 pattern you may have a much greater selection of wheels: fuchs, gasburners, cookiecutters and a load of newer styles. just check the offset.

is the stud pattern conversion done well, legally etc?

Hey Paddo,

Would you like to add your 66 Fastback to the Type 3 Registry?

http://www.type3registry.com/

If you have any questions, please let me know.

Thanks,

Dennis

Well after a lot of work on the car I was finally issued my RWC today and have an appointment with Vic Roads tomorrow to have my fasty finally registered!!

There was a lot more needed to be done to get the car on the road than I had initially realised, here is what had to be done;

-replace gearbox
-replace heater cable
-replace heater tube
-door trims
-re wire entire car (nothing worked, from brake lights to blinkers to dash lights)
-replace seat belts
-replace shocks (rear and front)
-replace bump stops
-replace brake hoses (rear and front)
-replace rear drum flange
-replace rear brake drums
-replace steering wheel
-horn
-refit front bumper
-replace engine mounts
-new 12v wiper motor
-replace front windscreen
-ball joints
-replace indicator switch

and lots of other fiddly things.

But finally it would seem that the nightmare is over and soon I may be able to drive my fasty on a daily basis.

A big thanks to Dean and the boys at Volkspower for their initial help with the car, while an extra special thanks goes to Wolfgang and the boys at Volks Court in Thomastown for also doing a lot of work and getting me on the road.

I hope to have some pics up within the next couple of days, so stay tuned.
