Correct tyre size
I have just bough a set of Empi Style 8 Spoke 15" x 5.5" American Eagle Wheels for my 69 Beetle. I am getting all sorts of conflicting advice on
what size tyres I should running. Can anybody help me out?

im running the same rims and my tire combo is with in 5mm of stock rolling diameter mate so ill look tomorrow

Bob Jane up here pulled out the specs book 4 me and I was given a bit of choice so i recommend them here in Maryborough Qld. try local Bob Jane
Also got them to do wheel alignment and the German "Probal" (professional balance (extra $40) but will get that back insuperior tyre wear and fuel
economy they say. Was impressed from the start.

the stock overall diameter is about 625mm. Legally you have to stay +/- 15mm of that.

185-70-15 or195-65-15 or 205-65-15 any of these but the first 2 are best the last one probly too fat and i dont know if they make many 185-70
anymore,anyway it depends on whether u want an accurate speedo or not.Anyway stick around a bit longer and u might actually get some useful info

185x65x15 rolling dia 623 mm thats as close to stock as you will get bridgestone make one turanza gr50 no doubt others do as well |

before you fit the wheels make sure you use the correct nuts for them ..if you are using the stock type bolts check they have the ball seat NOT the
60degree seat commonly available or alternativly use studs and nuts the studs are either pressed in (big work) or screw in with loctite then ball seat
nuts .i just went thru the exercise. |

i run on my empi 8's on the super
195/60r15 fronts
206/60r15 on the rear.
205 on a 5.5 inch rim do roll under a little more than i would like. but they are fine for the street (my semi slicks are 195/55r15 on 6inch and
205/60r15 on 7 inch for the track)
also it depends on what type of tire you are after. the 195 and 205 60's have a fairly wide range of tires to choose from. i run bridgestone GIII.
also get falken st115, etc
I have no sympathy for my car, only the wallet that pays for it!

get the best tyres you can afford. There is no substitute for bad tyres - they are the only thing that connects your car to the road.

WHAT!!!..damn, I am breaking the law. I am running 195-50 on my notch, all 4. My speedo is also 5% off and the motor probably has to do 5% more work
to get it up to speed, but the grip
