1968 VW ROADSTER SOLD on eBay - for $5999 ("buy it now" invoked)

Hi everyone

I have a UNIQUE custom 1968 VW Beetle Roadster for sale (Victoria), in very good condition - custom number plates "VWFOR2" included. ONLY ONE OF FOUR EVER MADE FROM THE ORIGINAL STEEL MOULDS, and the only one still on the road. If you like head turning VWs, this is one for you :)

Here are the specs:

*Bright yellow
*Velour interior
*chromed and detailed 1835cc engine with twin Kadron carbs
*Oval beetle front guards with sloping headlights, eyebrows and harley turning indicators
*Nardi mahogany steering wheel (worth $700 alone)
*Scat t-bar shift
*Wolfsburg crest hubcaps
*10x6 wheels at front; 10x8s at rear
*'Flying VW' hood ornament
*custom exhaust
*500 watt 11-speaker award-winning Alpine CD/Stacker system
*one owner for last 10 years
*only 60000k's since restoration

The car has appeared in Volkswagen Australia magazine, won best non-factory convertible at the Day of the Volkswagen many years ago and has won several car audio trophies in its time.

Car has now been sold on ebay - for $5999 (buy it now invoked) Looks like it's going to NSW!

URL was: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7162739240

Cheers and thanks for the interest!

Alessandro

More pics!

I should add that the roadster also has:

(1) A CodeAlarm alarm system with microwave sensor (for the roof) and a pager that notifies you of any possible break-ins up to 1km or so away.

(2) A hands-free mobile phone system - colour coded Nokia phone supplied!

The price is really negotiable guys, if you have a genuine offer, please let me know :)

Cheers

I've been asked offline about rego and an engineer's report for the roadster ...

For the record, the car has an Engineer's Report at VicRoads for the roof mods, etc. and has a valid rego till the end of Jan 2006 :)

Cheers!

Seeing all the nice rides here has given me the "bug" again :)

..... so I may well be tempted to swap the yellow beast rather than sell. Not just for anything, though! It would definitely have to be pre-68 or an oval, and complete or near-complete ...

Tempt me here or via a u2u!

Cheers

Yep, I used to work at Melbourne uni (1995-99), and always parked in college crescent. That was in the days I used the beetle as a daily driver :)'

Definitely a car for someone who likes to be noticed ;-)

In a way, yes.

However, in place of the rear seat there's a second interior boot, with a lockable carpeted/removeable door. Not the easiest to get into - you have to fold both front seats forward so you can unlock and remove it - but it is quite roomy inside. The door does have a secondary lockable flap if you just want to stow small items in there without having to take the whole door out.

The door locks are not visible from the outside so it's good from a security angle too. Looks just like a carpeted rear wall, and when you fold the roof down behind the seats no-one would be the wiser. All you'll see is a gleaming VW symbol through the folded rear window :)

Finally, you can charge the battery up from the outside (special connector fitted underneath the car, with a matching charger which will be sold with the vehicle) so you don't have to remove any of the back section just to access the battery!

Certainly a nice piece. More than i can afford. That would certainly win a few trophies i would imagine. have you entered it into any comps or shows?

Yes, it one best non-factory convertible at the "Day of the Volkswagen" in the late 1990s; it also won several car audio awards as well for sheer sound quality (NOT duff duff!) Haven't been on the competition circuit for ages though.

By the way, offers less than $8500 are welcome, you could be surprised. Also don't forget I'm prepared to swap it for the right car (vw, of course)!

Price is now $8000, but don't know if I can go much lower guys. For what you're getting, this is a steal.

I'm still also interested in a swap with an early model bug, but there haven't been any offers there either ...

... so the dreaded eBay may well be in this car's future ... urgh ...

Car is now on eBay for an opening bid of $4999, with NO RESERVE (call me mad!) To be sold as is, with no RWC (shouldn't be a problem, though)

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7162739240

Anyway, this is a really low price for such a nice car, so if someone here buys it at least I'll know it's going to an enthusiast :)

Cheers and good luck

Hi Blue_62

I was flogging the bug 6 months ago, but at above 10k (and no response to any ads!) The price has been dropping steadily since then, but it's definitely now at rockbottom ...

I've already had a few enquiries about it from the ebay ad (mainly from NSW), so we'll just have to see what the market says in the end :)

Cheers

Well, well, well. Less than a day and a half on ebay (350+ views) and it's gone - to NSW and an enthusiast.

He bought it for $5999 (buy it now invoked - he REALLY wanted it) I like his style - that's how I bought it impulsively.

Anyway, thanks for the comments and the interest everyone. Keep an eye out for this beast in NSW!

Cheers

Alessandro
