industrial motor
hi there i did post this under magneto down the list, but anyway got this off ebay
can anyone tell me what it was used for,and as i explained b4,the magneto has some type of electrodes one the end off the leads which seem to have
screwed into a fitting on the motor where the plugs would normally go,but they are missing, can the mag be modified to suit standard plug leads, and
what is the little pump thing on the motor,is running a small pulley from the crank then a belt to something that looks like a exturnal pump, but then
it connects with a lever to the carby, maybe some rpm reducer.im sure someone out there can explain it to me .....cheers

It looks like it's a 1200 industrial engine.
Fired by magneto so it doesn't need an electrical system.
The "pump" you were talking about - driven from the crankshaft, is almost certainly a speed govenor - common with industrial engines to
maintain a constant rpm.
They were used in pumps, generators, and air compressors (to name a few applications).
I don't have much info on magnetos, but you might find more info from
http://www.greatplanes.com/imagetime.html
The magnetos are very popular with VWs used in aviation.

I think the plugs/caps are the same as the aviation style. The sparkplug has a metal sleeve with a thread on the top.

Sure can. But need to check if in fact that is the style.
Were do you live? If out near Hoxton Park Aerodrome then I can arrange for you to pick up some old ones to try if you like.

also would you have some of the leeds to suit them as one of mine looks like it is missing the cover that goes over the bottom of the lead
and on the side there is a round threaded peice that puts out spark would you know where or what it connects to

Convert it back to a distributor, or run an earth line through to a dashboard switch from the magneto.
You will also want to get rid of the governor - let me know if you have one for sale....
