Nope sorry, but I saw a white 412 (station wagon version) in Adelaide a few weeks ago - the only type4 I've seen in person in 35 years of driving VWs.

i saw 4 wagons in a wrecking yard in LA when i was over there in '93, and they are the only ones I have ever seen in my whole life. even pictures are rare it seems. Ive never seen a sedan.

I understand they were fuel injected and a bit of a sales flop. where were they actually sold? was it a USA thing only?

The 411 debuted in Europe in 1968, but wasn't sold in the USA until 1969. It was only available in two body styles - the four-door sedan and the two-door station wagon. The Euro models had carb engines for a couple of years but the US-spec models were injected from the start.

Sales were pretty bad. VW upgraded it (to 1.8 and EFI on all models), gave it a facelift and called it the 412 in 1972, but sales did not improve. It was killed off in 1974 to make room for the Passat.

LNC Industries did import two 411s in 1968 to evaluate them for Australia, but they would have been way too expensive to sell here - more expensive than the Falcons and Holdens of the time. They were sold in New Guinea and New Zealand, where some of the private imports have come from.

There is a wrecked one at VVDS in Sydney if anyone is interested...

Best thing about 411 n 412s was that they had great VW accessory wheels fitted... like on my Orange car.
