Shifter

My shifter can rattle and woble a bit while in gear. I pulled down the shifter and bracket and stuff, i was just wondering if the ball at the bottom of the shifter was meant to have metal on metal contact with the shift rod (this is where it is rattling).

Is this in your Kombi?
then
Yes it's metal to metal - grease it up well.
Check underneath at the front of the shift rod, there is a nylon guide bush.
Check the centre joint of the shift rod.
There are nylon sleeves that support the shift rod in the chassis tube, but these usually last forever.
Check the rear flexible coupling - the joint itself and the two grub screws are tight.
Check nose cone bush on gearbox
