Help on Subaru into Kombi Conversion
Hi All
I know that this topic has been covered hundreds of times, so please forgive me. I am interested in a watercooled Subaru engine (EA82 most probably)
conversion for my Kombi, but can not find a definative link to the actual modifications needed to be undertaken.
Can someone please direct me to a link that actually explains what is needed, how the conversion is undertaken and technical info like engine HP, and
gearbox setups etc.

EA82's are very similar to the EA81. The main difference is that ea82's have SOHC heads whereas ea81's have pushrods. I think the adaptor plates
are the same. Chech on the search facility as someone did an ea81 to Kombi conversion recently. |

um, think you might be mistaken aboutn the similarities; an ea81 is an ea71 with a larger bore/longer stroke (cant remember which) and yet the
bellhousings if you get those made are different, so i would believe that the ea82 would be rather different again,

Just go with an EJ22 and be done with it. 2.2L of fuel injected pleasure

Plus the EJ20/ 22 conversion seems allot more common. Should be more information available :thumb which is good.

EA 82 are a lot more common but most were done pre the web era so are not documented

we have some info on http://www.customoffroad.com.au. Apart from that if you
buy one of our kits you will get an instruction manual hehehe or you can ask questions in here and we will answer them.
There are a few people on here doing them at the moment. Helbus is one that comes to mind and he lives in melb

Once I have finished the conversion, which should only take a couple of weeks now that I have all the bits, I can give you the name of my mechanic and
you could get it done there. Much easier to do it all on a hoist.
I am using all of the Custom Off Road gear and sourced the EJ22 motor here in Melbourne myself.
Mordialloc Auto Salvage are Subaru specialists and will have an EJ22 and all of the associated parts required Subaru.
