Where do you get a helmet from???
Is a road helmet the same as a motorbike helmet??? I've only ever borrowed one... What's the best place in Sydney to get one?? Thanks blokes.....

I got mine from the helmet warehouse in Yagoona.
Spyder-WISD 07-09-05 11.6s @ 125 MPH

I always try to get the following features
- removable lining, your in a car with no airlfow, you will sweat alot
- none chrome buckle, these rust and helmets can't be used
- if you get a proper one designed for car racing, they nornally have a nomex chin strap cover or pad.
I have no sympathy for my car, only the wallet that pays for it!

Motorbike helmets are not the same as true circuit car helmtes....the window in a car helmet is smaller which makes for a stronger helmet. You also
have to sign a wiver stating that you will not use the helmet on the road.

The motor bike helmet is past by cams to use in racecar activities.When i also logged booked the car they also pasted the helmet as well stating that
it is just as strong as a car helmet if not better.(this statement was from a cams scruiteneer official)JVLRacing

Yeh i use a motorcross helmet, I think they just check it abit more because if its been used with a motorbike its had the chance of being dropped more
often.

Yes they are approved by CAMS but for a scruiteneer to say they are just as strong as a car helmet is just some wally voicing his own uninformed
opinion...unless he has a Phd in Helmets I would not base my choice on his 2 cents worth.

Any helmet is OK for CAMS motorsport use, providing it complies with Australian Standards or eqivalent.
AS1698 Australian standard
Snell 90 (or over) US standard
heaps of other international standards.
Helmets arent Helmets.
A full face helmet can make it hard to do your belts up.
A full face helmet is heavier and puts more stress on your neck in an accident.
A full face helmet can help your neck by limiting the forward travel of your head.
A full face helmet will save your looks should your head hit the steering wheel.
Personally I feel claustrophobic in a full face and use an open one, and take the risk that it may be less effective.

I stick by my first comment...the strength and overall construction of a proper car helmet is way above a bike helmet. I don't really think he
represents the views of CAMS in this regard....in fact I'm sure CAMS would tear this guy a new one if they found out he was giving advice of this
nature.

He is doing what lawyers refer to as "acting in ultravires".....i.e. he is making a statement or performing a task that he is either unqualified to
do or unauthorised to do. .....bottom line is that he should not give this type of advice (even if he was right, which he ain't).
Surf over to the Ozclubbies forum .,..this exact discussion is going on over there and those guys know their stuff.
An old saying in motorbike world is "if you have a $10 head, then put it in a $10 helmet"....BTW my helmet was $1100 on special....it is very
good.

[Murph,The bloke has 20years exp.He looks after Hillclimb, Motorkana,Targa,Rally and track events.The Bloke is recommended threw Cams to
scruiteneer and log book cars .The gentlemen is not going to risk his job all have a law suit forwarded to him.The bloke use to race himself,why would
he risk my life to make his paper work easier? You got your helmet pretty cheap $1100 not bad.Mind $1595 .JVLRacing

You got me there...why does the Snell Foundation spend millions of dollars testing helmets evey year when they could just ask this brainiac which
helmets "he thinks" are best...with 20 years experience checking for oil leaks and loose wheel nuts on sh1tbox hillclimbers and motokana cars he
must know more about helmets than anybody else.
I doubt he even knows the gravity of his statement.
To be honest this is going nowhere ....fast !

Murph, I think its more what Cams book says whats approved then hes experience then anything else.The rule is as long it has a AS number it will past

I have a Historic Formula Vee...I blew the motor last time out at Eastern Creek...finnaly got it back together and statred last week. While its off
the road I'm doing a shed load of upgrades ...oil cooler/filter set up and a "new" old body form the original body molds.
I have a tranny leak that is driving me spare...otherwise all is good.

Thats sounds good Murph, you should join up with the Porsche Car Club or meet some of the Vw boys that turn up to have a good time.Motor racing can be
creul,always light at the end the tunnel.My Vw Sportsedan has had nothing but electrical problems since been finished.Money is a factor at the moment
to fix that problem.JVLRacing
