Why?? There's no logical reason I can think of to do this.
If it's a gearing issue put an 1800 box in which drops straight in.
Cheers.

what an odd thing to do. beetle gearboxes are weaker. I'm running a 1600 kombi gearbox in my 1800 van. It's great. Sure it limits topspeed, but it
does the speed limit. That's all I care about. It's good for towing too.

Hold on just a second. If my sources are correct, then LBug boxes are pretty well as strong as an 091 2l box standard. Apparently they had very
similar sized shafts and bearings in them. Kimm from Indian was telling me this. The only real compromise will be that of CVs. However, Bajawes has a
way of converting CV flanges from beetle to kombi with a bit of simple maching and redrilling.
Check this page, There's technical drawing in pdf to show you how,
http://www.offroadvw.net/tech/
I'd be interested to know how this goes. The only real drama I see is how you're gonna hang the box in the Kombi engine bay.

Well I'll be! I never knew the L boxes were so different! I had a gearbox from a 1600 t3 wagon in my s beetle though. I liked that a lot.
I humbly apologise to you :blush
