Hi
Hi everyone,
Just thought I'd put in a few pics of my car for my first post. I've been veedubbing for about 2 weeks now. So very new to it all, but loving it.

Oh yeah, and I'm sure most of you can tell from the photos. But its a 1972 1300. But it has a 1500 engine. I know nothing about the engine or when
its from, but from reading around I thought the 1500's were a bit earlier than 72. I'm pretty sure it was rebuilt before it went in though and its
done about 80,000ks since. |

What I want to do and what I actually do are two different things based on money.
• I have a new stereo that I haven't installed yet.
• New front bumper.
• One of those roof racks with the wooden slats.
• I would like a set of earlier model wheels, the ones with no holes in the steel and the really domed hub caps. Then paint the steel either
matching red, white or black. Then later on when these tyres wear down, some white walls.
• Might lower it a bit, but I don't think there is much point in that till I get the wheels looking a lot tidier, and if a new set of wheels costs
to much I might get new hub caps for these ones and paint the steel on these instead.
I've already done some minimal stuff to the interior that you can't see in these photos and since I got it I've put the new seat covers on and the
8ball, installed the speakers. And much to my amazement fixed the tail lights, speedo light and fuel guage which weren't working and took me quite a
while to work out how to fix.
Also, are the headlights on beetles generally pretty piss weak? I can see when I'm driving but not as clearly as in other cars. Would this maybe be a
globe replacement or if I want it brighter am I looking at driving lights? |

Love the red of your bug! It's awesome, and looks very tidy. With a new bumper and the roofracks and wheels, this would be a fiery little drive!
I've only had my car for just over a week, a 1970 Auto Beetle. They're the best little car, I only wish I'd come to my senses sooner! Hahaha
Anyways, have fun veedubbing! Where abouts in Melbourne are you? I'll wave to you if I see your Fiery Red Bug! |

I'm in the eastern subs.
I'm not so sure about the roof rack anymore. They look great on some bugs, but I've seen photos on bright red/orange/blue etc and they look a bit
out of place. Seem to suit the grey/biege etc better. Plus the only place I can find them wants $495. |

the earlier wheels won't fit your car... it's a different bolt pattern! but even now you can whack a set of whitewall flappers on (shouldnt be more
than $150) and it'll look sweet
lowering is always good with any wheels
have fun!
speeding is bad!

the lights are easy what you do is you buy the mk 1 golf h4 upgrade they fit the bugs nicely and once you have them you can use the globes like modern
cars. i recommend the narva plus 50s as they are bright but dont draw too much current. nice bug love the colour. might even get to see it as ill be
down there in couple of weeks

I've re-thought the list of things I want to do:
• EMPI 8 Spokes
• Disc Brakes
• Bumper Bars (60's Style)
• Rubber tubing to go over handbrake and gear stick.
• Headlight upgrade
• Head Unit & Line in plug in hole left of ash tray
• Speaker Cover Sheet
• Boot Carpet
• Inertia Seat Belts
• Lower it - probably just front
• Black metal or chrome running boards
• Roof Rack (black)
• Door Seals - and ones that go between fenders and body
• Eyebrows (Headlight visors)
• Chrome window winders
• Mud Flaps
• Exhaust upgrade or tips
• Floor mats
• Tacho and K's speedo where speakers used to be. (Fit tacho into current speaker grill, not replace with die cut sheet)
• Real VW key
• Glove box lining
• LOUD horn
• Twin Carbs
• Chrome air cleaner
• Number plate covers
• Chrome and rubber pedal covers
• Racing stripes
• Orange indicator or another red one
• Left mirror
• fix windows so they go up and down perfectly
What do you all think of that? Anything else you think I should add to the list? Obviously I won't do EVERYTHING on the list. And it's going to take
me a while (based on cash), but cars are boring if your not constantly doing something to them. |

Congratulations on joining VW world !!!!
Ur bug looks really nice and being a Melbourneian I will no doubt see it soon. Good luck with your list of projects, it seems daunting but will be
worth it !
I think that you are right by not putting the roof racks on. They look brill on the 50's and 60's bugs, but I really don't think that they suit the
70's bugs (sorry !). Empi 8's will really suit your bug !
Yes VW headlights are pretty weak. I used to have a 68 bug and the headlights were crap. I have now got a new beetle and believe me they haven't
gotten any better !!!!

Canni: If it works, will that stuff take it back to crappy looking metal or will it come up nice and shinny like my back bumper?
That would be good to do for now, but I would really like the 60's style bumpers. Does anyone know if they would fit my bug? |
