First ride!!!!!
Three days ago, I rode my bug with Subaru EJ 22 out of the garage and hit the Autobahn. It was such a good feeling after all the work and time. But it
is worth all that.
I made 100 kp/h at exactly 3000 rpm, and 180 kp/h at 5600 rpm. That was great. When going 180 kp/h it hit me for a second: You had the car completly
apart ! Are you sure that everything is tight ? You have no safety belt or airbag !
Okay we die like real men!
Here some facts of my bug, as I have to check the accuracy of my speedo and tach:
car: 65` bug with 68`IRS pan
trans : 1303 S (L-bug box)
wheels: 5,5 X 15 Porsche steel
tires: 185/65/15, circumference 1931 mm

so unasuming... I like it, I like it alot!
What is the little wire down the side????? I just fed all mine through the heater tube straight under the back seat.
I might go for a spin this morning also.

Hi Matt,
that little cable down the side is of my LCD thermometer that is standing on the handle above the glovebox. Look close and you can see it. I was
always a bit concerned about the open airfilter over the hot engine. I wanted to check the temps of the intake air right at the first ride. And would
you believe, that it was 15 to 30 degrees celcius higher than ambient air. Anything less than 5 degrees higher is good, so this is bad. I cut a big
hole under the licenseplate and even under the light for the licenseplate, both not visible. And I will install a fan behind the license plate to blow
the hot air out.

Because it gets hot here in Australia, I make and sell a product called Hoodjax. Hoodjax opens the top of your engine cover to let cool air in. They
work similar to the cheapo cast alloy 'decklid offsets' but my design is removable; you can close your engine lid in seconds for rainy days. I hope
hypovw (Mr Penrose) doesn,t mind... I have attatched a piccy of his 11-second drag car fitted with Hoodjax. My own cars and many customers over the
last 10 years have seen engine bay temps drop by 20 or more degrees (to just a couple of degrees above ambient) and oil temps on air-cooled engines
drop by 15C (sometimes more) degrees. I reckon Hoodjax will help lower your intake air temps

If you do not want stand offs, as there is no air required to cool the motor as well, make a box section around the filter and have ducting running to
it from either next to gearbox, a hole or vents in the deck lid, or do as I have and just cut out the small louvers between the hinge mounts and have
the box go all the way up to this area...that would probably be the easiest as your filter is in the centre.

Well done. You must be stoked. And the Beetle looks great. I really like the look with those Porsche steel wheels.
I got my exhaust system back (85% finished) last weekend and will be in to my conversion after the June long weekend.
I can't wait.

The 180 km/h was not the possible top speed, just what I wanted to do for the first ride. I expect something around
200 km/h. But, as you might know by now, it was with a slipping clutch. How fast will it be with a working clutch. The airfilter got to get a cover,
so that the hot air from the engine does not get to it. I don´t like stand offs, so I have to do it a different way. That day was the hottest in May
since 1875 in Germany. We had up to 32 °C , and in slow trafic it was up to 59 °C in the enginebay. But it is rare to get this hot overhere.

Hi Buggy Brad,
it was 32 to 34 ° C hot those two days that I rode my bug for the first time. The temperature went down to 15 ° C right after that. The front of my
bug looks still the same. The temp of my coolant was a bit to high, but that was because of the slipping clutch. Think about 3 000 rpm and the clutch
is slipping 3000 times a minute on the surface of the flywheel.
The temps were 95 to 105, so that the fan was just a bit to often running. It was not running constantly. I can´t tell you yet how the cooling system
is working, we got to wait til I have it on the road again with the new clutch.

looks a bit strange to me, did you put it in sideways. To me it looks like you are loosing to much room that could be used for cooling down in the
spare wheel well. Maybe this is just a bad angle in your picture.

180 kph is not scary it is fun!
A good way to get additional air to the radiator is to use the horn grills and place a tube behind them directing the air to the radiator.

The way I placed it should be the same as it is placed in a BMW (drain pug at the bottom). And it goes down a fair bit from what is visible in the
picture.With a small scoop under the car (+ I cut out a part like Zenjoe on Volksswap has) it should get plenty of air. Also placed a Peugeot
ventilator in front of it.
