Hmmm, there's a plethora of things....

One spare is not enough, take at least two.
20 litres of water
Metric spanners and sockets
12V test-light for timing
Jumper leads (just for jump starting other people :D)
Spare fuses, globes, distributor, carbies and fuel pump and filters. Some spare fuel hose, spare clutch and throttle cable.
Take a fridge, its nearly impossible to keep food fresh in an esky, even if you fill it with ice everyday. Use the esky for cold drinks - it saves opening the fridge every 5 mins to get a cold drink.:)

Ahhh.....memories

1) A Trangia stove. One of those metho ones. They are the BEST. You can ALWAYS buy metho, they work in the rain, wind anywhere.

2) One of those canvas bag things that hold water off the bull bar / bumper bar. Nothing better than having a COLD drink of water when you stop for a cuppa from your Trangia.

3) This is luxury but we took one. Scout around and try and pick up an old "Atomic" cappachino machine. They sit perfectly on top of the Trangia. Nothin beats waking up in the morning out in the midddle of Australia and having a fresh Lavazza cuppachino!

4) A digital camera, a laptop and a mobile phone. Even a video camera. I took a few pictures but not nearly enough. With a digital you can shoot off hundreds and just store them.

What NOT to take - a watch or a calander! - just cruize dude!!!

I will think of some more!

KruizinKombi suggested metric tools which seems reasonable given that's what you should find on a kombi. However, I'm amazed at the number of imperial nuts and bolts that I have found on mine! So I'd add a shifter and vicegrips to the toolbox. A big shifter might also help should you meet a guy in a white 4wd!
