Just got a Type 3 fastback,...please help
Hi I was wondering if anyone can tell me what sort of fuel my '72 1600tl fastback takes, I have no experience with VW but have fallen in love with my
new/old car.

I run my VWs on premium unleaded, not regular unleaded as the octane is too low, do you have a flux capacitor? getting fuel cells for those in this
day and age is a hassle.
Welcome to the VW world.

I run std unleaded in my old std VW.. no worries so far. (I think the flux capacitor was a joke from Back To The Future...?)

Either premium or regular will do. You only need 91 octane according to the owners manual. Some people also chuck in a bit of valve saver, but this
is an issue that has caused much debate in the past.
Either way, welcome to the forum and the type 3 family. It's good to see another late model fasty owner.

Hey, I use standard unleaded in my 73, both when it had dual carbies and with fuel injection. But I have 044 heads installed!! Its running good and
every now and then I put some valve lubricator in there. Its been that way for about 9000 miles now!!
