I have only ever worked on a 356SC and from memory it didn't have a floor pan-it was built like other cars- monocoque construction. I should have
paid more attention when I was under it disconnecting for engine removal.

I think he's talking about the fibreglass reproduction bodies (ie replicas).
Not sure - try having a look at some of the kit car web sites around (Google them), you might find them that way.
I know that John at Vee Dub Center in Osborne Park has one sitting in his workshop, dont know if he wants to sell it buteveryone has their price.
Actually john has alot of nice stuff there (2 ovals and an early notch, all unrestored).... he had a Eureka with injected type 4 engine and a 1303
cabriolet with subaru EJ22 in it also (but I think he sold that for 12,000 or something....)

Heres one with a list of Aussie kit cars (including the speedster 356 somewhere), with links to their web pages:
http://www.kitcarlinks.com/restmakers.htm
[Note: Don't think it shows any from australia, but its got one listed from NZ]
Heres some specific 356 spider kit manufactures: (list of em' from over the globe)
http://search.atomz.com/search/?sp-q=356&sp-a=00080779-sp00000001
(All from http://www.kitcarlinks.com )
enjoy. Hope it helps. Some are vee dub based.
I know this one is:
http://www.thunderranch.com (But it doesn't use a veedub pan though,
sigh).
Go there, they have a vw based speedster. Very nice spider too, but the spider aint fully vee dub based. And this manufacturer is U.S., so thats a bit
of a pain, but its good.
Anyways, in those links you should be able to find one in there. I saw one before that was purely vee dub based, but it was in Mexico. (Which I'm not
sure if I could trust with the workmanship and all, i dunno)
The one in NZ I mentioned (New Zealand) is purely vee dub based and uses a beetle pan. Heres their web site:
http://www.platinumspeedsters.com/
I'm sure there should be plenty there for ya to look at. If you make any choices or undergo the project, it would be great if you could give us all
the info about it. Thats if you do of course.
But its a nice car, and it would be great to see how you go about it if you do decide to undertake the project.
AH HA! YES! I just found out that the platinumspeedsters in NZ have a dealer in Australia. Lucky lucky.
Heres the aussie speedster sight: (imagine it would be purely vee dub based like the one in NZ, check it out)

There are a few 356s (orignal shells not fiberglass) on Beetle pans. One was recently on eBay. Basically they hacked the floor pan and grafted the
shell on the VW pan. Not sure why would someone do that because there is a fair amount of work involved. Maybe they thought its cheaper in the long
run.

hmmm at 25grand for the basic kit i think it is out of the question.
was looking for price just on the fibreglass body.
not all the extras as it would be customised..not like every other one.
anyway, seems there is no place that just does the shell.

Yeah, it is pretty pricey. Probably taking advantage of the idea that they seem to be the only aussie manufacturers, and so any aussies looking for
them have only that one place to go and have no choice but to pay that price, otherwise they have to undergo the hassle of going overseas to find a
speedster kit and try to work out how to get it complianced in australia.

I have seen real 356's for under $30,000 ....admittedly they were hardtops but they were in decent condition.
