Leaky type 3 fastback
OK, still trying to find the leak in our '72 fasty.
The area is around the brake/throttle pedal.
To date I cannot find a leak in the windscreen seal, I have covered the fresh air vents at the bottom of the windscreen. I have laid a plastic mat on
the floor where it gets wet, and there's no drops on it after sitting in the rain yesturday but, it's still damp under the carpet.
So I don't think it's leaking from above that I can see. That leaves water coming in from where?
My guess is the body/pan seal behind the front wheels?? There's very little if any rust there, so any way to seal this without removing the body? I
can't see an easy way to seal this up from the outside.
Any pointers, or other area's water may come from?
The doors do collect water also, but this seems to drain to the outside OK and not go into the cabin.

Is it water, the reason I ask is that a faulty brake master cylinder can leak into that area. Check your break fluid levels.

Hey thank's Brett. Definitely water. It's fine when it's not raining 
Unfortunately I just can find the point it comes in from, that's why I think it may be the body/pan seal as then it can leak in over a large. From
the outside though the join looks well protected from water off the tyres, so not sure.
As this is a low mile original with minimal rust I hope to keep it that way.

There is a water channel that is just under each front guard.
Mine were rusted through, so that when it rained the water would run thorugh to the cab. Not good.
All sorted out now, but check there. And also check that the air vents under the windscreen arent filled and blocked with leaves. Blow them
through.
Hope you sort it out.

There is also little drain holes in the front corners of the air vents. They just have to be slighty blocked and they over flow and leak into your
cabin onto your feet. Also clear the main drain hoses also as they can get blokes after many years.

Since I had my dash apart all this weekend, I cleaned out the drain hoses and were once again they were full of crap. I also been having a damp
section on the passenger side when it rains hard but there are no water leaks that are noticeable. When I removed the drain hose, the metal male
connection which attaches from the lower body had rusted and a nice little hole was there.
Maybe your male steel connection is rusted out to, as the water would come straight into the footwell area, without being seen. |

Hey, thanks Guy's. Didn't have time to check further over the week end. I have taped over the vents at the bottom of the windscreen in an effort to
eliminate any problems with the vent system with no luck.
Gibbo, where is this channel at the bottom of the front guards?
