Starter Motor for my Golf

Hey guys,

I own a 1997 VW Golf CL.

I've been having problems starting it recently, so I took it into the mechanic. I'm told that I need a new starter motor, which is going to cost ~$900!

Is this the correct price? It seems a lot for a starter motor..
How easily avaliable are second hand ones, and are they reliable?

$900 was far more than what I was expecting..!..

Anyway, Thanks for the help....

ask your mechanic were the local auto elect and visit them,is your car manual or auto? as the clutch dust in a manual builds up inside the starter and causes a bit of havic, have removed many pulled them apart cleaned and refitted without the need for new parts....be informed as this will save you money! cheers dsk steve
