*now with Sebring style exhaust!!!! Bloody LOUD*new engine ready

Well I've just about finished the new 1916.
Just waiting on the fan to come back from balancing and she'll fitted in the Speedster.:bounce
Two things that I hated....
1. Porting is the most boring job on the surface of the earth...followed by..
2. Tig welding up the fan...preheat-weld-preheat-weld etc...followed by 3 hrs in the furnace-up to 650deg and cool down for stress releaving.:( gezzzzz.

Hehehe, ur not supposed to see that...
it's a combination of camera angle and the fan shroud is not pushed down far enough in the photo.

I like the Fram filter - gives it a period performance feel.

Looks great. Was it a nightmare to get the linkage to work from behind the fan shroud?

The orange thingy is an original 356 Framm filter (still need to repaint and add the new decals). The linkages in the rear were not a problem, there is a kit available for that. I wanted the filter so the linkages needed to be in the rear as the original 356.
The carbs are 44 IDFs.
Original 356 engines....

Please excuse my lack of knowledge, is the fram an oil or fuel filter?
I know some will go, what a dummy but I have to ask, or I will never know! :(

It's an oil filter Robo. But they also make fuel filters.

Thanks, looks a bit big for a fuel filter I spose, but then again I have a Racor fuel filter with a water seperator on the Kombi, and it would be close to the size of the fram you have, I have to say it looks pretty dam fine on your engine!

Dose the Framm filter add engine life?
Whats better the Framm or a full flow oil filter on a VW? I asume the framm uses gravity to return to the sump.
Also I love yer carbs supposidly I can get shorty manifolds to fit them into my type 3
what sort of performance are they going to offer you with you engine?
Thanks Nige

The Fram filter runs in a parallel circuit with the engine lubricating system. There is only a percentage of oil that passes thru the filter. The return is at the inlet pressure less the DP (differental pressure) across the filter cartrage. I will most likely run a consealed oil cooler, I'll wait and see what the temps are like.
Whats the performace I expect....hehehe I don't think I want to go into that one......I've seen the other posts!!!!!
But
The engine is .....
new AS41 case
94 P/C
counterweighted crank
Engle 120 cam
044 heads ported-3 angle valve seats
1.25 ratio rockers
8.5 CR
12.5 lb flywheel
44 IDFs
and other stuff!!!
Yeah you can get short manifolds for the type 3.

[Dasdubber...the kit came from Vintage Vee Dubb Supplies in Campsie, also check with our sponser.
I think they would look a very clean setup on a Beetle.]

Excellent Pete, I especially like the Engine bay.
Did you make a fancy alloy fan or just weld up the steel one for high rev security?
-
yes will be interesting to see how it goes.
I like your engine combination , should get the rear twitching.
