Wide type three brakes to kombi brakes
Just a quick question
** Wondering if kombi rear drums will fit onto type three

Dont know, but early wide 5 type 3 rears will fit beetle axles as I have them on my split, you have to use the backing plates and it all bolts on.

No they won't fit, the spline in the middle is bigger on a Kombi drum

Hey Dave that depends on what year Kombi your talking about. Early Kombis up to August '63 share the same spline size as Type 3s and Beetles, the
only difference being the length of the spline (Kombi being longer). Type 3s and early Kombis even shared the same rear brake shoes. We used to use
Kombi drums on the rear of our rallye cars by machining of a portion of the outer spline section of the drum to make it the same length as the Beetle
one. I've also seen 4 stud Type 3 drums fitted to early Kombi rear by fitting a spacer between the drum and nut (the oil seal collar is just right
for this).
