I asked this before the crash.
Anyone know about this guy.I saw a mag feature a while ago (about 1990)on his black oval.
I was wondering if he is still around Adelaide?
What happend to his oval, looked like it had a load done to the engine.

Cheers

I asked this before the site crashed.
I saw an old (1990) article on this guys black oval, he was in Adelaide and it looked like it had a lot of work done on the engine.
I ask on the drag pages as I think he was into racing?
I have been here for 7 years and I havent seen it at any shows.
What happened to it and is the owner still around.

Cheers

B4's car is still around and is a real Aussie classic with a
lot of style and quality engineering and craftsmanship.
He has drag raced the car into the low 14s with the 90.5X74 engine.
Last I heard it had been upgraded with 48IDAs, Berg5,NOS and other
fruit, but dont think he gets out all that often
any more.
B4 = Before = Pryor(Prior)...get it?

Yes,I got it too.Hope people don't think that about me when I go to our VW shows. To bad if they do-it takes all types to make the hobby so enjoyable.

Dave is actually a good friend, but time and distance (and me being slack) have kept us out of touch...hope to catch up soon.

Dave was over here (Perth) a little while back...he's a great guy with a VERY dry wit!... He still has the oval...And a very nice early 60's bug too. This one has a hot donk in it also!
Dave, Aaron Britcher and myself took a road trip to the Nationals back in 94 when he first put 'gas' on it. He was having troubles getting it to work, but we drove to Sydney anyway (I had driven from Perth!). After a quick drive up the Hume, we got into Sydney very early Saturday morning, crashed at Boris' place, then took off for Oran Park (got lost on the way!) in the marning. The first run at the track he backfired badly, second run he blew the aircleaner clean off the left dellorto and set fire to the headliner! That sucker still haulled even though it was off colour!
Before the trip to Sydney we went for drive to Glenelg with Dave drivind and Aaron and myself in the car, we still blew off some hot Commies!!! So much fun!
I dragged my bug all day after a very long drive across Oz and we had a blast that weekend. I headed down the Melbourne and Aaron and Dave went back to SA. On the way back he dropped the car in to a mates to get the headliner replaced, then he put the car in the shed and I think that was about the last time he used it! He decided to change a few things with the engine shortly after that trip and its still in bits today!! He still loves VW's, just not into them like he use to be...Got other interests that take up loads of time.. Aaron and I are on his case...He'll get it going again sometime soon...

I know he will!

as he was fitting up the IDA's and berg manifolds that I sold him.
Hope you all like...very salubrious1

Yep thats Dave's current engine... As far as I know he hasn't run it since the rebuild... I might have to give him a call tonight... He'd get a 'kick' out of all the chatter on here! Way back in 94 when he first put gas on it, he had made a twin point 09 or 010 for it.... He couldn't get it to run right, but u have to admire a guy who loves his old school stuff... He always ragged on me for turbos, EFI and crankfire timing and I always ragged on him for NOS and points in the dizzy! But geeze he's a good bloke!

Also DB... You notice the 56 race numbers on the wall? Those are the stickers he ran on the bug when it was featured in the mag, the event was the Dutton Rally that was run as part of the Adelaide Grand Prix.

The attached shots are of us cleanin off the cars before we left for the Nats that year.

Hi Simon,

Is that my car in the background?
Drove it again 2day, with the 49 x 38mm valves on unleaded - gee what a rush. Had to retard the timing a bit, got to get some PULP.

Cheers,
Hermann

There was a couple of Black Bugs done by some of the crew in SA, one was a 58 and I think there was another oval, but no disrespect, none of them were in the same league as B4's.... The panel fit, the smoothness of the body, the smoothness of the drivetrain, the finish of the interior... None of the parts are 'kit' parts... Its all hand made and/or NOS to the absolute highest spec! And I think Dave's is the only one with a BERG 5 speeder, 4 wheel disc brakes and genuine Porsche 16's and 15's with 6" spare!
