HELP: slammed rear end is very bouncy
hi there
recently lowered the rear end of my swing axle bug, the bump stops have been removed completely and she is about 8cms off the ground.
ive noticed she is now very bouncy in the rear and doesnt recover from bumps in the road as well as before.
has this anything to do with removing the bump stops? will changing to stiffer rear shocks help? how can i get her a bit more firm in the rear,
without raising it?
thanks
sam

you can notch your spring plates sam - gives you a bit more travel before they smack into what ever is above them i think i have a notched set here somwhere off a 69... and coil over shockers help.. i hade very similar
prob.. but i was bangin' metal on metal.. after my bump stops desintergrated..
type 3 bump stops are shorter than beetle ones.. track some down and stick them in (cannot get them new)
i now run T3 bump stops, but i raised my rear a bit when getting coil over shockers put in... i was at about the 8-9cm mark before going up a bit
aswell - looks hella cool.. but blows to drive

I would say that the problem probably lies in the shock absorbers.
They now rest in a more compressed state than when at the stock ride height. Don't necessarily need stiffer ones, just ones that are the right length
for your new ride height.
The load borne by the torsion bars has not changed.

If the shocks are bottoming and becoming the limit of travel the shock may fail or damage the shock mounts.
As 56 pointed to, check the axle travel versus the compressed length of the shock and make sure it is not the limiting factor.
