new beetle speedo

anyone out there know how the new beetle speedos work? particularly interested in the type of signal that comes out of the gearbox to the speedo. Is it still a cable or is it electronic?

The speedo is in the podule which contains most of the car's computers. If you disconnect power to it, you will need to reprogram everything from the door lock mechanisms through to alarm settings.

The speedo is a completely electronic unit, and if you're trying to adjust the 6 km/h bias out of it, go to 18" wheels with 55 profile rubber. That ends up being 100 km/h and 100 km/h. On the 16" OEM wheels, you'll be traveling at 94 km/h when it shows 100 km/h.

The Bentley manual is available electronically on CD - check http://www.newbeetle.org  to see if anyone is willing to part with theirs or where you can buy it directly.

Its a hall effect type sender . Cables went out years ago . I think the 96 t4 was the last vw to use cable . The first was 87 200 T from memory , its possible that the UR Quattro used this system as well but havent worked on many so cant really check:crazy:
