door trims ?
In the middle of a respray at the moment. So recently removed the door trims which i hate. They are covered with black velour. I wanting to really
make the interior look clean and simple. I would love to get something made out of carbon fibre or is there any thing available. But this could be
quite expensive. What other options are being used by others ?

Door trims
Im in the middle of finishing a set for my Kombi. I have done the drivers side door and sliding rear door so far .
I used masonite covered in 6mm foam and then vinyl covering. The foam and vinyl is glued with contact adhesive (can be bought in a spray can) and i
have stapled the vinyl around the edges as well.
I fixed the panel to the door with the plastic push in plugs - i think they are called 'christmas tree' plugs.
If you wan't a decent job, make sure you use the foam over the masonite board. This gives a much more professional look and also covers the raised
edges of the fixing lugs so you dont see them from the inside.
I also used some 'fake' chrome strip along the inside to finish it off.
Im sure there are heaps of different ways of doing it, just play around a bit and see what you come up with.

Hi
I have seen Carbon Joe make a lot of carbon fibre parts.
I am not sure of the cost. But u can email him there.
There is a section dedicated to carbon fibre.
http://www.germanlook.com and look in the forum section.
I think I have seen a door trim in carbon fibre.

I have seen some made from Aluminium sheet and some remade like Grouch's comments. myself, I am making my own pretty much the same way as described
for foam over masonite(except I am investigating perspex instead for water reasons). I am using the old ones as templates and going from there.

Thanks for the ideas. I did think about using perspex as trims but it would scatch very easily. I am wanting to make up a set of kick panels to match.
and the rear trim panels will hav to also be custom as they have scoops cut into the body work for the intercooler which means that i have to cut out
the trims to fit. no back seat though.
