reserve valve for 57 oval

i will be putting a new fuel sender and gauge in a 57 oval that has the original tank with the reserve lever inside the car.

What are people's opinions on the original reserve valves and the amount of fuel you can get through them.

If flow is a problem i might as well take out the valve whilst the tank is out and fix up the fuel line.

It'd be fine for a 1200, dont know about a 1600, the passages inside the reserve tap are tiny!

fine for a stock 1600. Used it on my oval with out any problems. Twin carbs ? dunno. Reckon for small ones it would be ok. Kadrons etc. Big webers wouldnt be any good I reckon

TAKE IT OUT. Replace it with a 8mm - or thereabouts - jobbie one from a Type 3

You THINK it works fine.. until your case cracks due to phantom detonation or you fit the new one and the car goes 100 percent harder... ;)nn[ Edited on 17-7-2005 by VWCOOL ]

my beetle was missing tap ,,after reading all this I decided to get a new fuel tap from Classic Vee Dub & fit it, influenced by the fact that Porsches were fitted with exactly the same tap

I have a standard 1600SP
before fitting I did a long uphill drive foot to the floor in top gear & checked speed at top of hill 60mph
fitted tap & did same climb 60 mph
I ma happy nownn[ Edited on 27-7-2005 by kombikim ]
