Here is the intake manifolds after the VW event 2 weeks ago . I don't really know why they cracked and broke as the data is all fine . One cause is a small backfire in the inlet system after bouncing off the rev limiter @ over 9000 rpm's due to the shitty track and wheel spin . The other possible cause is that the tyre shake has just gone through the entire car and just plain broke the manifolds . Either way , I have fitted another spare set of intake manifolds and I will back the clutch down a little and test it out again this weekend at the Sydney Jamboree . The track should be very sticky this weekend so hopefully I may be able to get the car down the track a few times , ROD.

You need to put a flexible joiner in your cross tube, on the manifold dude.
The engine is fighting the manifold with heat expansion.

Interesting that it broke on the thicker section between the ports. It does look like there was some stress placed on the studs.

No boys , I have 2 silicon joiners in the manifold already . I did replace the hoses with some new Turbosmart hoses as they seem to be a bit thicker and stronger than what I was using . Anyway I am loaded up and ready for a good day tomorrow . I am not real confident that it will go quick , however I have my chassis tuner with me tomorrow and we will start adjusting the chassis to take a bit of bite out of the rear end . What the hell that means is beyond me , but we will see what it does tomorrow , ROD.

Well , here is a quick de-brief of what went on last weekend @ the Sydney Jamboree . After replacing the broken inlet manifolds with some new ones I had here I decided to join Ben and Henry for the day . I had the Adelaide tune installed and the only difference to the car was the rear shocks were stiffened a little on the compression side . I went out with an extra 2 lb's of air in the rear tyres now @ 8.5 and the car had a bit of wheel spin off the startline and than went really good . The 60 ft time was 1.29 , 1/2 track was 5.39 @ 135 and full track was 8.33 @ 164 . The car filled with smoke as I backed off and by the time I stopped the safety guy came running over to put out a small oil fire . I had purchased some you beaut fire proof matting for the base of my catch tray , well , it isn't fire proof , no real damage . After closer inspection in the pits I had blown out 4 outer and 1 inner push rod tube seals on one side .
I missed the 2nd qualifier on purpose so we weren't rushed to replace the seals . All data looked good and no changes were made at this time . On my next qualifier I went 1.22 in the 60 , 5.19 @ 135 1/2 track and 8.12 @ 164 again at the end . A little smoke again on back off and this time I only blew out 1 outer seal , on the same side as before and one of the new seals . I mopped up a little oil and compressed the tube and the seal popped back in place .
All data looked good and the chassis guy lifted the wheelie bars a little and re-adjusted the front shock extension . The 1st round of racing against the VS ute I went 1.23 in the 60 , 5.24 @ 130 1/2 track and 8.25 @ 162 full track . I was a little down on this run as I had to get out of the throttle as I shifted into top gear as the wheels started to spin and didn't seem to grip . The data tells me I peddled it twice . All in all quite a successful day that I didn't see happening . The car is ready to go again after I try to modify the push rod tube to fix the oil leaks . The track was very sticky and it is amazing what a difference a good track prep can do when compared to the VW meeting 3 weeks before . ROD.
