Hey Rodney, welcome back home.
Absolutely awesome motor; makes my 2332 look a bit pedestrian.

ENGINE MOUNTED

I have mounted the engine and it all fit's good at this stage . I will be removing the rack and pinion unit in favour of a small billet steering box as I found it too dificult to route the steering shaft under and around the engine . I could easily bring the shaft over the top of the engine but this creates the issue of disconnecting the steering every time the engine is removed . The steering box is the same unit as used in most front engined dragsters and will now travel under the rocker cover to a bell crank linkage . I will also be fabricating all of the turbo exhaust and intake manifolds by the end of January . I have decided to stick with the single turbo idea for weight and simplicity of the entire fabrication of the manifolds . The Turbo of choice being the Garrett supplied GT51R . This is good enough for a recomemded 900 hp and will do for the time being and will be up-graded when necessary , ROD.

I have started on the aluminium intake manifold . I will have a single 75mm throtle body mounted in the centre of the engine and have a removable centre section to allow the top of the block to lifted for regular maintenance of the conrod bearings . I am yet to determine if I will use a plenum style of intake system or if I will gently direct the air into the individual cylinders . The tubing used is 3'' and it will then divide into a 2 1/4 '' runner for each cylinder .

Polished alloy is a complete pain in the ass to maintain, unless your going to volunteer to do the upkeep on the polish as well. Ceramic coating is the go for a chrome like finish and it works as a heat barrier too.

Intake manifold

I have completed the basic design of the inlet manifold and am happy with the outcome . I am researching the fuel injectors needed at the moment so this will do until I need some more welding and fabrication . I am looking into using the new E85 fuel rather than methanol so I can use less injestors/wiring ect , all to save a bit more weight . The turbo is mounted and the exaught is almost finished , ROD.

Looks good Rod. Why no expansion joints in that manifold? Is it Al or ss? Wont it crack with temp differential anyway, even if its the same material as the case, heads and barrels?

I think you better stay with Methanol fuel Rod , much more forgiving on tune - up and have a good look at how the fuel works ( yes it's nice to be green E-85 ) . Lots of v8 guys you methanol with efi .
Wait ! what wait ,car will be lite anyway , E-85 tune window is'nt large ,it's not real racing fuel .

Hi Rod

Do you have a 4 link program, Id love to see a pic of your chassis from the side (low down) and see the 4 link bars and up to the front. I bet it will be a pain to set the 4 link up.

Trevor , I have plotted all of the 4 link points on a graph and I am happy with the adjustability that I have created on the rear end . This is the same basic design that is used on 90% of drag racing cars so it should be quite easy to get some sound advice when it comes time to tune the chassis . I researched the rear end set up a lot before I started as I didn't even know what a 4 link was , what an anti roll bar was , what a whishbone was . It is amazing what I have learnt in regards to different set-ups , 4 link bars and how they work , the length of the bars , the length of the bars in relation to the wheel bsae of the car , pinion angles and a lot more . I am looking forward to the challenge when the car is finished , ROD.
