#####RUST ISSUES######
I'm in the process of cutting out the rust in my 61 pictured left. I just need to know the best way to repair the section where the bonet closes down
onto the body. This is a spot where alot of beetles reqiure repairs and can anyone advise me what to do? i have removed the thin rubber seal that is
spot welded onto the body to find significant rust. Do i cut and shut from a good doner car or fabricate this section myself? Hope i have explained
myself well?
Thanks

Are you talking about the section in front of the windscreen, the bit behind the bar or all the way around?

You can buy the strips that hold the rubber strips on...
or
You can use the Mexican type rubber fo the bonnet..
this rubber clips onto the bonnet edging...
You will still neeed to do something across the top of the bonnet.. if its not rusted... leave the original rubber across the top.....
When using the Mexican rubber clipped to the bonnet You need to take off the metal strip and have a flat surface all way round [except the top] for
the rubber to seal..... the mexican seal looks similar to any modern boot seal..... I hope You can make sense of this...
I used the mexican type seal on the bonnet and engine lid

Now onto My favourite product....
FISH OIL.....
this inexpensive product will seek out every nook & crany to stop rust in its tracks....
just make sure the metal isn't wet before using it....
it comes in pressure pack cans or in 4 litre cans... so it can be sprayed or bruched on....
its available from Auto One shops or BIG W...
the el cheapo stuff $2-99 spray can does nothing....
Power plus or Auto One brand or Killrust are best...
Killrust is sold in most Stores like Mitre 10 etc....
Spray anywhere rust can start.... Just wipe off the acess before it sets... can take a few days to set, or weeks in the winter.... Hair dryer may
make it set sooner....
Cheers

it's the section just above the front chrome strip, part of the body of the car. In other words if you remove the bonnet, throw it away not to be
confused. It's what the bonnet closes down onto. Does this help? Its only rusted along this section for about a foot.nn[ Edited on 7-8-2005 by Ross ]
