Where is the best place for new EJ22 parts?
I'm after a water pump for the EJ22 in my Transporter and am wondering where is the best place for parts (price-wise)?
Doesn't have to be Brisbane as long as postage is possible.
Thanks folks

pumps are worth around the $100 mark if that helps.
Zupps had them on trade special a while back for $79.95
Cheers,

How do you check if your water pump is OK?
How long has your water pump lasted since you did the engine conversion?
I notice a lot of the people recommend replacing the water pump and thermostat on any engine that has sat for more than 6 months.

My wife gets any Subaru parts we need through her work. She works at a panel shop. They always want the chassis number, so I have written down a good
chassis number off a Liberty with the same year so I can always get the right mechanical engine parts.
Our thermostat was not opening after sitting around for so long, so it is worthwhile getting another one.

what about EJ25s?
I'm pulling my motor out this weekend to sort the clutch issue and it's tempting to do the timing belt/water pump at the same time.
How hard it it to replace the timing belt?
Where would I get a DOHC EJ25 belt in Sydney?
What sort of cash would it be?

Mine has lasted 3 years since the conversion (makes the engine - and water pump- 12 years old).
It has started leaking coolant and this is coming from inside the timing belt cover. This is apparently the sign to replace it as the seals against
the shaft leak and are an integral part of the assembly.

if it is leaking coolant from the cover then it is in need or a new one.
Mine has 20 000 km on it without issue so far. I am going to do a belt in another 10 and will probably do it then.

Just a little word of warning... The EJ's water pump drive 'circuit' is shared with the cams... it's all one belt so a collapsed water pump will
mean smashed pistons...

I thought the Ej20 and EJ22 were of the non-interferance type, so if the belt broke you couldn't put a valve through the piston.
Maybe it is the newer EJ25 that is the interference type?

My engine dude said it was an interference.. better safe than sorry! Regardless, engine will not run real well with no cam belt!

According these documents the 2.5L DOHC can get valve/valve interference and the cam sprockets need to be locked when replacing the timing belt http://www.ravensblade-impreza.com/techdocs/pdf/engine/dohctbelt.pdf

Is it common for a water pump to fall to pieces and the pulley drop off so the cam belt becomes loose? I suppose if you change it just when the seal
starts leaking it would be ok?

Well, I want to talk about the 2.5 litre DOHC please. Now that I am feeling doubly hesitant about replacing the timing belt, does anyone have any idea
where I'd get one?
Are they the same as the EJ20 DOHC? or are they a different length?

The only difficulty I found with Subaru dealers is they want a chassis number before they will help with part no's or prices. That's why I have an
EJ22 Liberty chassis number I use to get part number and price info, then I fax the part numbers to my wife who orders them through her work.
Well it is her bus, so she can do half the work. :thumb

Just incase anyone is interested,
2.5 DOHC engines use the same timing belt as 2l DOHC engines,
and
All EJs use the same water pump.
Found that out today at the local parts shop.
