1302S & 1600S, What's the difference?

Hey,
Does anyone know the difference between a 1971 1302S and a 1971 1600S? I drive a 1600S and also keep a 1302S in the garage to farm dust with and I'm just wondering if there's any major difference between the two that I haven't realised.
Thanks.

Okay, so either my bug has a non-standard decklid/badge, or it was imorted somewhere along the lines?

like dave said 1302S was the technical name for them
each country seemed to give them a name
Uk stuck with 1302, usa went superbeetle and australia went superbug
the badge was probably put on after someones holiday to europe...lol

Our 1971 "1302" has lowback seats and the badge on the back is "Volkswagen S" I find a lot of people call them a Superbeetle probably because they have mechanicals of a Super, but have body of a Beetle.

How do you mean? My '71 '1302S' has the same body as my '71 Volkswagen S, even down to the 4 vent decklid and all.

Ours is original, and Australian built, so I suppose the "Volkswagen S" is the correct badge for an Australian 1302

Hi

The 1302 had Volkswagen S script on the engine lid and the 1303 Volkswagen L script on the engine lid. 1302 & 1303 is the official factory designation. They really didnt name the Beetles except as a 1200.

Volkswagenboy1 your 1971 should have a 2 vent engine lid, but the 4 vent would work better were you live.

Steve
