Advice needed on modified 56 oval

Hiya everyone
I found this 56 on eBay and would like some opinions on whether its a good buy. I know its not original but I am looking for a tidy daily driver. Should I be concerned about the later model chassis ? Is it good value considering its been modified ?

good value??

well... Kris i think u hav to make the decision whether ur buying this to drive & not worry about carpark dings etc?? because first of all being a black car -with a very expensive paint job.itll cost u a packet to paint/repair/touch up..get my drift? if ur buying for an investmenyt?? Dont drive it just show it because ull devaule it very quick..if u cant afford the to do that then dont bother in the first place.. ur probably better off finding a later model s or lbug in very good condition as a daily driver...this looks too nice to wreck.. NB..the non original pan is from a super ??with modified front to take the beam..better for handling ?? yes>> but??what chassis number has it got now??? not a 56??being black also would make it a very hot car- litteraly in the sun..also Nice cream leather interior would b a nitemare to Keep clean as a daily driver ..think about all these things ?? hope i dont turn u off it>.. & good luck with ur search>> Cheers G:)

It is a nice car - but dont know about a daily.
I think the 71 pan is more a semi auto pan?? Convert it back to manual and you get IRS, disc brakes and BJ's
But it would be a "modified" car. Not too much of a woory. Shannons will insure it but NRMA etc wont.
Agree about "worry about it". Oval parts can be hard to get Later super beetles are easier and cheaper for parts.
Also have more safety features, collapsable steering, standard discs, high back seats.

Semaphore indicators and not the safest of things
Yes cool - just not daily in Sydney traffic

Anyway........

It was on carpoint for $12.5k, so $9k is a good starting price for sure. It depends what you're after. If it's your first bug, maybe not the car for you, but if you've had a number, and know what you're getting into, then go for it.

On the other hand....you could get a really good Karmann Cabriolet really cheap, and allow the Karmann Cabriolet owner to buy the Oval.

Great looking car, would be good value at 7k, is ok at 9k if it's what you really want.

Later chassis means it has to comply to relevant laws for the CHASSIS year not the body year: so theoretically to pass rego it will need indicators at the rear added (it already has some added at the front), it will need seatbelts added and engineered if not already done... but in practise all this depends on who inspects it, a lot of the inspection blokes respect old VWs and will ignore these minor details and pass it as long as it is solid and has no problems with suspension and brakes.

I've got a Golf IV and an Oval.
The Oval has plenty of style yes,
but you can't beat the comfort of the golf.

Kris,
just from a glance the herbie on ebay looks to be a licorice allsorts

the bumpers abd s wheel as well as no glove box lid don't look 63 to me more like 66 custom
yet the blinkers /taillights do

I love the black oval and for 9gs you will look after it u still have safety plus less maintenance for years esp rust stuff -than with 63 or earlier,
Insurance will help to let it be adaily driver....dings etc the wide chassis and good wheels and tyres on the suspension will be comfy
