mmmmmm that looks so much fun? one question..what motor do you run behind it?
is a 1600twin port enough to have some decent fun off road, dunes, beach .etc?
just curious as i have a 1641 sitting around in pieces that could do with a good use.

Great to see a Baja doing what it was built for.....:thumb
As for the 1600 71 superbug, I've seen quite a few 1600's off road and they do very well, in fact one day we showed some v8 hiluxes how it was done!

My old red baja had a 1600 single in it at one stage too, absolutely bulletproof motor, I caned it for 4 years and couldnt hurt it at all. I remember
driving it back from Kalgoorlie to Perth one time (about 600km) into a corker of a storm, about 50kmh headwind, the most I could get it to sit on was
about 80 - 85kmh I had 31's on the rear too.
Very nice photo too by the way - nothing like baja's in their native territory

not on the guards but because they are actually the fronts of the set (the rears have to big of an offset and wont fit till the wide guards go on)
they rub on the spring plates during suspension drop which shits me to tears!

31's are just a bit too big under a std swinger bug without lifting it at least half a spline. IF you dont mind me hijacking, here is a photo of my
late 57 baja that I had for a couple of years - before we lifted the rear. Tyres rubbed like a bastard before, and werent a problem after...

if i jack up the rear with the current wheels on it it will just cause them to rub more on the spring plates......i am having no issues with them
hitting the guards.
ps ur baja has the same kit as mine:thumb

they are front offset. dont know what the backspace is exactly. the other ones are the right offset but will stick out too much for the skinny guards
so when ive done the glass work on the wide guards they will be put on and should fit fine.
33's are illegal on a bug. i only want 31's anyway. but i can see why they would rip your guards up. they are big tyres to have under a stock height
baja bug.

I can see why that would happen with the front offset on the rear. I had the 15 x 7 rims made for the back of that car (I sold it in 2003, silly me -
now I am building another Baja !), and yeah, once it was raised it was sweet.
I reckon the bug eye kits are the best, but the one I have now has the Cheetah kit (wide eye with the bonnet scoops), I think I will have to make some
bar work to mount the lights off, the guards have cracked as it is with that much weight hanging off of them.
33's would be huge on a bug ! I didnt realise that 31's were actually legal - I have been thinking about what rims and tyres I need for the car....

i reckon 15 inch pecos all round is the best setup for a baja or buggie. nice and strong and simple. or if u cant get that then wide stockies dont
look too bad if they are clean and painted.
who can afford centerlines? pffft

my cage bolts around the torsion tube underneath and then the 2 main bars come up and over the engine and bolt thru the firewall. not quite as well
secured as if they were attached to the shock mounts but it has a cross bar for strength.

oh and for long distance driving the bigger the wheel diameter the less fuel u will use. just take it easy getting up to speed with a 1300 or u will
be labouring the engine trying to gun it.
theres how my bar work attaches to the torsion tube.
this lower attachment works well and is much stronger than the bottom shock mounts but the upper attachment goes thru the firewall. which is pretty
thin. so u want the 2 upper main bars to attach to the upper shock mounts on the rear which gives u better engine access as well.
