1975 Kombi 2L Smoking

Hi,
Another chapter in the saga of my kombi. When dad was driving it to get it registered, he sed it started smoking, and smoke was coming out of the dash!!!!!!

What's going on???

Also, my engine appears to have some home-mechanics work done. It was two cans, that look like they're covering something. Will take photos sometime soon so you can see.

Any suggestions/solutions?nn[ Edited on 10/9/2005 by jimmy ]

If the smoke was coming from the dash and the engine it could be an oil leak onto the heater boxes. Then as the boxes heat up the oil smokes like anything! I had a leaky push rod tube and it caused some bad smoking but was easy to fix. Worth checking out anyway.

Cheers, and as always keep helping me out.

Without seeing the photos the cans could be blocking the metal pipes that join to the auxiliary heater blower via flexible hoses. If the blower and its hoses aren't there hot air will be blown back into the engine bay. (There are flaps in the blower housing to prevent this happening).

It wooks like they have put cans over the tubes that go down to the heater boxers. Where the cans are the tubes from the heater fan fit to blow air over the heater boxes the in to the cabin. I have welch plug blocking mine.
