need help urgently

hey everyone, i need help. my clutch cable tube has come unstuck from inside the tunnel and the bowden tube is pushing the solid tube back toward the peddles so that i cannot get flex in the bowden tube hence major clutch chatter taking off at almost all rpm. how can i get this to stop moving, have tried welding it but the weld won't stick to the tube and at the moment am trying to hold it there with some holes drilled and cable ties to hold it steady. any help would be appreciated. thanks

Had to fix this one myself. I'd suggest its only let go at the back, or at the front, probably not both. If it's at the front, You'll have to cut a hole in the top of the tunnel above the pedal box big enough to get in and weld it back on. Welding it back in at the back of the car is gonna be cramped and difficult too. You'll need to clean the surface up as shiny and clean as possible before welding to get good penetration so it won't let go again. Sorry dude, It's a bitch of a job. :(

how did you get the welds to stick, it has come off at the front and the back, i tried to weld it and it just doesn't stick to the tube, welds just break off.

Shiny shiny clean metal. The better the prep, the better the weld. Then turn up the MIG welder for a good amount of heat and penetration. The trick is not to blow a hole in the tube. I'd give it about a 3 on the heat and a little less than the usual setting for the feed. I usually set mine for slightly more feed than heat, but in this case i'd go even 3 on heat and 3 on feed.

What sort of welder are you using?

BTW, thats a 150watt mig.

A mate of mine is a welder by profession. He reckons the best welds are done on highly polished surfaces, so get ya wire wheel and go to work. If you want to go nuts you could even clean it down with a wipe of prepsol to make sure there is no grease whatsoever. Also, turn ya gas up a bit, that can help too with a high heat weld.
