70 AMP ALTERNATOR

I want to upgrade my 55 amp alt. to 70 amp alternator.
On the Aussie Kombi Campers web site they talk about
this upgrade.......".from late bay kombis".

In what year did they make the change ?
How do you tell them apart ?

I have a Dual Battery System and the 70amp would
give it a bit of extra grunt in charging the deep cycle
battery when flat.

Lets hear from you.

This is from the ratwell.com website:

"
9.8 Alternator size:
Most busses were equipped with 55A alternators (770 Watt) but some had 70A. You can identify a 70A alternator by the fan/pulley combo where as the 55A version only had a pulley.
If you had a stock BA6 gas heater in your Westfalia you probably had a 70A version because the gas heater blower draws 7A and the glow plug draws 10A extra current than a non equipped model. I beleive all Canadian models were so equipped.
"

The good news is that they do exist. The less good news is that they might be a Nth. Am. and Canada-only fitment.
