Cutting your fan shroud

Hi All,
Has anyone cut there fan shroud. My engine is like a watermelon in a sandwich bag and i want to know has anyone ever cut into there shroud. i only want to take a inch and a half out of the fron edge like the pic below I have photoshopped. i know there are vanes there and it wont go near the fan itself, just want to know if it will disrupt airflow.
I have all brand new tinware for my engine but dont want to stuff it up by cutting it yet. If anyone has a old stuffed TP1600 fan shroud, do you want to cut the edge out of it and see whats in there?
