split bus
we can't use the ebay 2nd chance offer until 3 days have passed I think, then the 2nd bidder gets first option.
its all up to my brother, its his, not mine.
we put stuff on ebay together, he also has an old truck but both split and his truck are project cars and need work. he will buy a modified
transporter one day.

i think the front indicators are not original either and have been grafted on to the nose. I had a look and they have been cut around front metalwork.
Had a vw friend over today and he dates it as a 61 also. the low rear tailight holes are there. bus chassis plate number supports this.
I might grab a grinder and gently remove the light filler plates to confirm.
I'm open to questions , the chap who was the 2nd ebay bidder still has first option to buy. If not we may keep it...they kinda grow on you, like
fungus.

tailight hole
we grabbed a grinder and wire brush to see if tailight hole is there. A big plate of tin has been welded on so we did one side of hole only as we
don't have the tools and didn't want to make a mess of it. It's sorta a hole with 2 slots, 1 top and 1 bottom.
looks like it's is the right spot? don't know.

Bitsa......was a panel.....looks to have push button front door handles and has small rear window and the rear holes look in the right spot and may
have another above maybe as some 61's had amber above the red in Aus.
Maybe had a complete front to the doors graft from a 64+ as everything from front doors onwards looks to be 61ish for sure.

split window kombi panel now 1700
I thought these splits were popular? I'll stick to bugs.
oh well, she's down to $1700.
unreg. needs total restoration, has rust. subaru engine not running...no battery or key.
she's a panel dated between 61 - 64?
chassis 21 - 707108

New price: 1625
Thanks , can these corner replacement panels be bought as reproductions? or do we have to find a bus and cut it.
The corner windows would be an easy sheetmetal job as they are above and below the van waistline and roof gutter.
The wheelarches would take some doing but the sheetmetal is there. would it be easier and simpler to buy a replacement arch?

Roy will have most of that ... or can get it ... you'd still have to stuff about with repro panels anyway to get them to fit. Probably just as hard
to size up donor corners, mark 'em on this bus and weld them in. The flarings in the over arch sections are around - Roy probably again....
I agree - it's all do-able, and not that hard to get into with all the stuff about these days.
And on the plus plus side - it's a pretty early panel - and they are getting harder to get, and seem to be getting more popular each year, so if
you're willing to look past today then one day it would make a nice ride ... someone should buy it ... it's a panel, and probably no worse than
anything else that's around...

how cool, if they are original, then that makes it kinda Aussie cool. Tell the pommies. That is a top image....kind of makes sense...those window aint
the kind of thing Repco stock....perhaps Mr Muller knows...seems like the kind of thing he'd have fact and figures on.....good luck with the
sale.....you know you want to keep it doncha.
And not indicators on that bus either....wonder why CSIRO would not want to let people know where they were going.

That poor old thing came out of our wrecking yard about 4 years ago - it had some interesting modifications to say the least. It was blue & white back
then.
The rear windows are landrover series one from memory

hi guys, she wasn't blue and white, definitely a red van. used acetone and rubbed bits here and there on the bus to confirm. red inside too? is this
usual? anyway, bus wasn't in wreckers yard 4 years ago, it was at my place in brissie...though it does look like a wrecking yard at the moment.
I think she is finally sold, maybe I made the mistake of letting go a unusual bus?

thanks for the reply guy h.
do you or hardings have a yard in brizzie?, wouldn't mind a look sometime with some vw diehard friends some time.
The comment intrigues us, and the prospective buyer, that she was blue and white, maybe a sister bus? or is it the same one somehow? we can't find
any blue, but some yellow paint through the layers.

Sorry, it was actually 7 years ago - it was a red panel van that had been painted white by a roller, whith cool? blue graphics painted on it - it had
this massive scoop under it for the radiator - it the same bus - you remember them!
We sold it to a customer, crazy Roy, who was into "touching" them up - he painted it red & white - anyway - goodluck with the sale!

rear corner windows
just had someone look at the old girl. during inspection it was noticed that the rear corners windows are stamped as vw "sekurit" glass. I have
sekurit etched glass on my 54 beetle.
This leads me to believe they are factory windows? does anyone out there think this is possible?
