A few coversion pics EJ20T

Just thought I would share some shots of my conversion, which I got running last week. I am pretty happy with it so far and although taking nearly a year of saturdays I can confidently say I did everything except making the aluminium ice box.....and unlike some conversions I have seen, I only used cable ties for what they were designed for.....tying cables.

I have spend the last few hours tuning the EMS system....this things are more fun than playing with the settings of the cars in my playstation GT3 garage!! It was a little rough out of the box but after a bit of a play and a few data logging sessions it has really come on strong. I thought that I should stop as the neighbours wouldn't appreciate the fanging up and down the street and besides that my lap top has been copping a beating bouncing around on the floor!

Cheers Paul

Performance is good.
Early days though, I haven't started with accel pump %, accel duration, temperature compensation etc as I still need to learn as I go. But I think if I can get it close as possible then get it fine tuned by a decent dyno operator it should be great. The EMS is also set up to run the anti lag system that is connected, so with that combined with extra boost and maybe water injection(Boof???) I plan on it being a bit of a hand full.

Cheers.

i believe the anti-lag setup being run puts a hell of strain on the turbo .etc and can commonly cause parts to break.

is that not a worry?

Antilag does generate an enormous amount of heat, but for short bursts and the fact that the auxilury air is fed into the inlet manifold and not the exhuast manifold I dont expect too many problems. The set up I am using is more a "rally" style and wont be on all the time... just when I need a laugh.
And no, it is not a worry. The engines are the disposable item as far as I am concerned.

In saying that, I am interested to hear what you base your experience on?

Cheers

What the hell is wrong with cable ties???? I made some engine supports from them today!

Wait till you up the boost a little....I had a willy nilly couple of twists on the main dial today and nearly floated into the car nest to me:fakesniff::thumb:fakesniff:

i say about the anti-lag as mates with WRX's have run it in the past all destroying numerous parts of the engine aswell as the gearbox as it gives a shitload of torque off the mark...

i myself am choosing the 13bturbo rotary option and i will not be running an antilag setup.

Craig, no gearbox upgrade as yet. I am hoping that to find one with all the good gear at the right price.....some how I think I will be waiting a while!

I'll wait and see how the standard L Bug box goes. Jak's been running an L Bug box and the ratios seem to suit the EJ, so a strengthened L Bug box would be great.

Matt, cant wait to turn up the boost, although I think I should get used to 7lb first!

Anti lag has nothing to do with taking off from a stand still. It is to keep the car on boost between gear changes.
Off the mark you are either at revvs and on boost, or not on boost.

I want an ems! Microtech do not have the wideband sensor capability...

Yes - very good idea. Hazing the rear tyres at 80 or 90km/h takes some getting used to... ;)

Paul,
a great job, and I admire your ethic of high standard of workmanship but I feel compelled to question one point you made:
(and I am with Boof on this)
What is wrong with cable ties?
And to extrapolate on your statement that things should only be used for the purpose for which they are made, I raise the following as cases in point that this is a false and dangerously limiting point of view.

If things were only used for their said "original purpose in life":
Kombis would never have been taken to the beach.
Nobody would EVER use a knife in an emergency when no screwdriver is at hand.
Food would never be used in sexual fun! :o
Subaru engines would never be put in to Volkswagens!!:cry

All said in the nicest possible way of course :p

Sorry if I offended you , what I was refering to was cable ties being dodgy when used to hold on radiators, fuel pumps, brackets, relays, fuse boxes, steering components, brake lines, fuel lines etc etc. After spending alot of time looking at a heap of conversions on the net, I kept noticing the things everywhere!!!

If cable ties were so good at holding things such as these, every automobile manufacturer would be using them. Doing my time in the auto trade I cannot recall a cable tie being used by a Manufacturer other than to hold on a harness, hose or cable.

Sorry if you find my point of veiw dangerous, but I would think that using cable ties for the type of thing mentioned above would be a whole lot more dangerous.

But I see what your saying, cable ties do have other uses such as tooth picks, hand cuffs, hair bands, lock picks, back scratchers, ear cleaners, jewellery, scrapers, cock rings?? etc etc.

Come on, there must be other uses??

Paul you didn't offend me - I was just having a laugh.

You've been pretty thorough with other uses for cable ties and I'll probably spend all day at work tomorrow trying to come up with other uses!

Paul I hope you have not used the SAME cable tie for all those uses. They may be handy but think of the hygene!
