Planned Mods

Hey there all

I know im new n all that, but i thought i'd ask everyones opinion on my plans for some new running gear for my baby...

At the moment, long term plan consists of
first im gonna get front discs to keep me out of trouble in the hot summer days when i feel like giving her a bit of throttle, then front and rear sway bars and stiffer shocks to keep her on the road

By the time i get that done i hope to have built myself (or as much as i can) a 1914cc twin solex type1 powerplant with a heavy duty clutch and a reco 1200 gearbox.

What do y'all think?

hi wadey
don't know about stabiliser bars on the back of a swing axle....i found my swing axled car (1500) handled best with lowering, koni shocks (not gas...to hard) , bigger stabiliser bar on front and packing the z-bar on the back to make it act earlier,195 tyres plus a good wheel alignment

i want it to have good acceleration, not worried too much about top speed, would the 1200 be too short however? ie causing alot of take-off wheelspin?

with my 1200 gearbox, 1st and 2nd are miles apart. that may not be an issue with the motor you planning though.

i would suggest a 1500 box..... stronger, better highway ratio and still plenty of bite in 1 and 2. if its a reco job you can put in whatever ratios u want. so do a search on here for some good combos of acceleration without sacraficing final drive in 4th

definately the 1500 box. i remember in my old beetle. we had the 1500 box rebuilt and jsut changed the fourth ratio. allowed the bug to fly of the start and then cruise the highway. was perfect.

A little bit of work and it can still be used on a swing axle. But what would I know? I didn't buy a shop.
