Radio Static from a Crane Fire Ball Coil

Fitted this coil on my Ghia last week. Problem is that I am getting bad static thru my stereo system now. Effects both the radio on FM and AM and while playing CD's. Fine while the engine is off. But while the engine is running there is a crackle that goes up and down with engine revs.

Anyone have any experience with these coils and electrical noise?

Running good supression leads I presume?

Other than that, run the thing in the dark and look for crossfiring.

Brand new leads Tas, genuine Beru Porshe factory stuff. It wasnt making the noise with a Bosche Red coil I have on previously and this was running with the Crane Hi 6 electronic ignition unit. But with this coil it does. There is a resistor in the coil lead. I am going to make up a new coil lead with no resistor a see if this changes anything.

You can buy inline suppressors(sp) to fit to the power supply to your radio. Most cb radio places and stereo fitting places should have them.

Hmmmmm you have a problem then!

Curios that the coil itself is causing RF interference.

Got me stuffed!

Good Luck with it.

Update. The problem with static is caused by the solid core sparkplug wires I am using. Like we all use on most of our air coolers. So the only way to fix it is with a set of spiral wound wires. Bugger really cause I just bought a new set of the solid core leads for this engine.

The static is really bad too. Evem making the TV inside go all funny.

Sooooooooo, ya werent were ya! LOL! U fewl!

Those solid wire leads are a bit of a dinosaur these days! The RF generated by them messes with the programming of engine ECU's not to mention radio interference.

You were right Tas, good call.
Looks like a trip to the Magfire (opps Magnecore) boys is in order hopefully I can get the plug wire by the meter and make up a set using the plug and coil connectors of my old plug wire set. It will mean no more fancy stainless braiding tho. Bugger:smirk:

Magnecore is certainly good stuff, however TopGun make spiral wire RF suppressed silicone leads in 8mm and 10mm and they will make them in just about any configuration you like.

Reasonably priced and available at any repco blah!

What about feeding the leads into that fake stainless braid that the rice boys love so much?

Good luck M8.
